I spent all day working on this and I really like how it turned out. I know I'm a geek, but there's something very satisfying about completing a cd project exactly how you intend it to be.

With the release last year of their awesome boxset Retro, I invariably picked apart what I did and didn't like about it, like we do with most collections, right? I really could've done without the 3rd and 4th discs of remixes and live material, although they're pretty great unto themselves. I just wish they'd put out a new remix album and a live one instead. I would've much rather had all of their singles, b-sides and important album tracks in one place.

So that's what I did. I made this a conglomerate of all their collections, Substance, The Best Of New Order, Retro and International. Each one has its own thing going for it, so I wanted what New Order considered important all in one place.

The way I organized it was roughly chronological. Generally, whatever version was on Retro, I used because of the superior sound quality. And that's fine cuz mostly, they used the best versions on that. If it's a single, I mostly used the 12" version cuz they're longer and better. The division of tracks is basically:

Disc One: Movement, the 1982 EP and Power, Corruption & Lies plus non-album singles/b-sides
Disc Two: Low-Life and Brotherhood plus non-album singles/b-sides
Disc Three: Substance and Technique plus non-album singles/b-sides
Disc Four: Republic and Get Ready plus non-album singles/b-sides

I tried to keep the artwork true to the original but had to change a few things due to spacial limitations.

It's easy to keep topping myself cuz I learn from my mistakes on old things I've made. And I start to learn what I like and how things will look before I even make them. Thanks for the thumbs up though.
