Luther or Teddy? Though it is unfair to have to choose between 2 of soul's finest in the late 70's early 80's they were 2 of the best. In a head to head competition who would you choose Luther Vandross or Teddy Pendergrass? I would have to say Luther even though I love me some Teddy P. Luther's songs were fun and romantic and Teddy's stuff was commanding lay you down bump and grind stuff (not that there's anything wrong with that) But I have more fun listening to Luther...

I would have to go with Luther too. Teddy just wanted to get straight to the point, while Luther serenaded and crooned before getting to the point. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

For me it's Teddy and that's really no shot at Luther. I love Luther's voice, I mean who couldn't, it's just that musically Teddy managed to stay away from the adult contemporary garbage for most of the time he was relevant.
Luther fell pray to that pretty early in his career and I really lost interest after that. I mean Teddy had Huff and Gamble writing for him for chrissakes...

Yeah, Gamble & Huff put it down for Teddy P, but I gotta go with Luther because he is a talented songwriter and arranger in his own right. He inspired me to write my own songs. I'll always love him for that.

Teddy P. just on the strength of the album "Life Is A Song Worth Singing". There isn't a single Luther album I can listen to all the way through.
