Michael McDonald + Ashford and Simpson , 2d row center, The Ryman = priceless

If you ever get the chance, please see Michael McDonald perform live. I saw him at the historic Ryman Auditorium tonite. He performed a benefit show at the Ryman tonight and did some of his best songs and some covers from Motown. John Hiatt joined him for an encore.

But the climax of the night was Ashford and Simpson joining him for 2 of their very best songs: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thing."

His band was as polished and professional as can be. The best always make it look and sound so easy!

Anyway, his setlist included:

It Keeps You Runnin'
You Belong To Me
Signed, Sealed Delivered
What's Goin' On
I Heard It Through The Grapevine
On My Own
Have a Little Faith In Me (feat. John Hiatt)
Yah Mo Be There
Sweet Freedom (dedicated to Gregory Hines, RIP)
Minute By Minute
What A Fool Believes
Ain't No Love
Takin' It To The Streets (feat. Ashford and Simpson)

All in all, one of the very, very best gigs I have ever attended.

I saw Michael here at and with the Honolulu Symphony and he kicked butt...I could see Prince performing here with the Honolulu Symphony backing him and the NPG...That would be another great show!
Aloha~
