This is my absolute favorite AWB song. I love the live version.

I don't know enough about this band but I need to for the funk. I've heard a couple of really funky songs, gritty funky almost.

Any suggestions on what album(s) to start finding some funk?

Start with their 1974 album 'AWB'.It includes such funk classics as "Person To Person","Got The Love",a splendid remake of the Isley Bros' "Work To Do" and their huge instrumental hit "Pick Up The Pieces",the song that put them on the map.

Then, you will want to get the 'Cut The Cake' album (from 1975).It includes "Cloudy" and the irresistible "School Boy Crush" (a track that has been sampled to death by the rappers).

My favorite AWB album is 1976's 'Soul Searching',which is another must-have.The first two tracks,"Love Your Life" and "I'm The One" are just the type of gritty funk jams that you're looking for.But the centerpiece of this album is "A Love Of Your Own",which is just mindblowing.

Get Pickin' Up The Pieces: The Best Of Average White Band. To me, it's got everything you need.

Pick Up The Pieces
Cut The Cake
A Love Of Your Own
Queen Of MY Soul
I'm The One
Cloudy

It's the best ten bucks I've spent on music, ever.

Just picked up "Cut the Cake" on vinyl for $0.99 and DAMN!

It's funky, not as "gritty" as I remember but really good. Some of the slower songs reak of Nineteen Seventysomething but that's what the arm on the record player is for lol
