Rachelle Farelle

i am surprised i don't hear more folks talking about this woman. are there any fans of her music lingering about? i've only a few of her cds but one of those few is a live disc from quebec (i think) that is just amazing. this woman makes sounds that i've never heard before in my life!

I have her self-titled CD and her "Individuality" CD. Pound for pound, this woman is one of the most talented singers I've heard. PERIOD. She blows away SOOO many other singers it in't even funny. Nobody on the pop/r&b/rock charts right now or in the past few years can TOUCH her. She's been discussed on here before, but many don't know who she is or are aware of just how gifted a vocalist she is. Rachelle Ferrell is undoubtedly one of the most slept-on singers. Even I forgot to mention her on the underrated singers thread. S'aight, though. I got her CDs.

Big ol' fan of Rachelle's. I caught her in Norfolk, Va. with my then-girlfriend. She got to singing "With Every Breath" and I was ready to shout! She curled up by one of the legs of the piano that George Duke was playing and just WAILED.

I was ready to leave my woman.

My friends and I were actually laughing at how ridiculous she was at the Celebration. It was like she was having an episode and tried to sing through it, the absolute low point of the Celebration for me.

I know this sounds cliché, but Rachelle's voice is definitely a gift and an instrument. I'm envious of her singing abilities.

I think Rachelle is awesome, but those faces and contortions are pretty spooky.

As a matter of fact, under my old org name (Brother 9/15), I discussed Ms. Ferrell several times. I've said it once and I'll still say it, Rachelle Ferrell is the toughest female vocalist to step on the scene in the last 10 years from what I've heard out there.

Listening to her, especially in a jazz setting, she gives the impression that there's nothing she can't handle. She uses time and space very well. She can breathe new life in old standards, her technique is quite accessible, and the versatility she displays,,,ALARMING...And this is not even mentioning the power, tone, range and conviction of her voice, which should be quite obvious to the human ear.

Her 1995 album First Instrument is a must-have...and it's easily one of the best jazz vocals records of the last 20 years.

Her, Cassandra Wilson and my other girl Dianne Reeves are the FANTASTIC TRIO of jazz vocal stylings...INDEED!!!

I agree with you totally. I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert twice and I didn't want to go home. She loves her fans.
