Me'shell Ndege'Ocello- Soul Searchin (I Wanna Know If It's Mine)- One Of Her Greatest Moments

I put this song on a CDR compilation I was making, consisting of some of my favorite 90's jamz last week

Rewind back to Jan of 1995, and I was driving through the city on a late Friday night and this jam came on...I was like HOLD UP!!! From the instrumental intro of the song, Me'shell had me. Then came the chorus..."Don't nobody want me" don't nobody kiss me"...then comes her poetic readings of how she is yearning for the intimacy of her lover...You know a song is great and special when there is no favorite moment of the song, because the whole track is grade A+.

I love the rap she does at the end of the song, as the lead guitar interlock with her bass riffs. This track also captures her at her most sexiest...She surely sounds seductive on lines like "find myself yearning for the heaven that you bring from your black hands...touch me..want to feel you inside of me".

I recall guessing at the title of the song after the song played...the DJ didn't identify the song. So I wrote down on the sheet of paper..."Don't Nobody Want Me". I knew the artist was Me'shell Ndege'ocello.

I was hoping she would include it on her Peace Beyond Passion album in 1996, but she didn't. Maybe she felt the track didn't fit in with the overall theme of that particular record. And I didn't want to buy the whole Higher Learning sountrack album... and they didn't release it as a single off the album.

Me'shell has had many great moments as she is a great artist, but this song is her greatest moment in my opinion. She truly bought her A game on this track...I put this track on this CDR compilation I was making and just kicked up the volume and kicked back...It had been a few years since I've heard it...Superior stuff!!!

Plus to boot...I dig songs that doesn't have its' title included in it.

This is one of those songs that I've always heard about, but never heard before. Everytime I go to buy cd's I completely forget about looking for the Higher Learning soundtrack. Is it hard to find?
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

That song is "tha jam", I love that song. I have put it on numerous compilations. I agree, one of her finer moments indeed.

Kind of... you may have to scoop it up from amazon.com or someplace like that... The album is still in print. Nova, you're a Me'shell fan I know...You'll love this track TRUST ME!!!...This one surely deserved to be on one of her own albums...A five-star recording to be exact.

I bought a used copy a couple of years ago.In addition to the MeShell track , there are "unreleased elsewhere" trax from Outcast & Ice Cube.Actually ,she has non-album trax on several soundtracks:

"Let Me Have You" on "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"
"Time Has Come Today" on "White Man's Burden"

and my favorite

"Isolation" on "Hurricane"

Also, there is an excellent live version of "Soul Record" that kicks off "Lilith Fair Vol.3" which immediately makes
the rest of the CD redundant lol

"Soul Searching" is a great song. I played that song repeatedly last year during bedtime. Sounds great when you want to relax and go to sleep. I love turning off all the lights and putting on this song.
