they had a hit club single in 1980 called "Just us" they sang backup for the late grand diva of em all Sylvester, the video you are probably talking about is "its raining men" from 1983.the girls names are Izora Rhodes and Martha Wash.

I know Martha, she's the high yellow skinned sista who always sings dance-club tunes, right? She was vocal as hell in the charts back in the early 90s.

Yeah, and she did vocals for C&C Music Factory. Remember how she didn't even appear in the videos and how this skinny chick lipsynced the lyrics instead? "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" was the sh*t! Though, I could do without Freedom Williams whack ass rappin'.

Martha Wash was used by lot's of acts for her voice, including C+C Music Factory, Black Box and Technotronic but substituted with skinny models in the videos. As part of the settlement she won for having her voice "stolen", Martha Wash was given a contract and released a self-titled album in 1992. I bought it 'cuz I liked her vocals on all of the above...but the album was flat and uninspired. What a shame.

Technotronic? I didn't know they did it too. For what song? Also, I never remember their songs having been known for great vocals.

I thought with Technotronic, it was Ya Kid K who was replaced in the video for Pump Up The Jam and on the album cover with a model named Felly. I have the tape.

Later on, the album cover was redone with Ya Kid K on the cover. From then on she was in the rest of the Technotronic videos.

OOPS-!

My bad! You're right about Technotronic...but I thought that there was a third band that had used Martha's vocals that way?

In the Black Box videos they "replaced" her with a black transvestite "model". Everybody Everybody was my jam. She could (Martha Wash) easily release a full cd of songs that probably went to #1 on the dance charts. That are also classic club jamz.

Unfortunately, that is what happened and how they were marketed.

They were extremely talented though with amazing voices. I remember they were on Johnny Carson with Joan Rivers and did IT's Raining Men LIVE... and it was unbelievable... doing all the gospel harmonies ...live and tight!

I just found an album by them called "Two Tons"... probaby in between their "Two Tons of FUn" but prior to "Weather Girls" incarnation. It wasn't very good unfortuantely sad

A fwe years ago I saw the "new" Weather Girls perform in NY...it was Izor and her daughter. They were good...they did a kick-ass version of Patti Labelle's "You Are My Friend"... but it felt weird without Martha.
