Has this happened to you?

Whenever I listen to Stevie Wonder's Black Man(from Songs In The Key Of Life)and it gets toward the end when someone asks the questions like who was the first man to
do such and such and the kids say the person's name and then they say a black man or red man or white man, etc.
That part always make me wanna cry.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I've always been embarassed to admit that, especially the very first time I heard it. I got angry at someone the other week when they dared to say that song was a filler.

Now Ebony Eyes is filler.

I love this song. Stevie Wonder is a genius. I learned new things from listening to that song. It should be played on the radio!

A lot of people have complained as most people do, with double albums ,that it's too long and could have been trimmed down. But in my opinion every song on here is good and many of them extremely superb. Makes me want to hear the outtakes from these sessions...Stevie was definitely in the zone and it appeared that he put every thing he had to give into this 2-record set. Years later, I'm still amazed at the greatness of this record.

Loved this album, played it to death! It even came with a 45 single. I think "Contusion" was on it. (Old school pros, help a sister out! smile)

"Black Man is great!" Honestly, though, I knew those facts. Black in the day, we had a deck of Black History Cards and made sure that every year we had a Black History Calendar (dry cleaners, funeral homes, and liquor stores, gave them out for free.) I still remember who Jan Matzeliger was!--He invented the shoe lasting machine. (He's not mentioned in Stevie's song, I don't think.)

If people learned something they didn't know about Black History, then Stevie's job is done. smile
