are u west coast? If so what are u thinking of KROQ

amd what new wave has done to become the general genere in rock etc

meaning tha old new wave was like early Cars, Altered Images, Adam Ant..Hayzee Fanbtaysee Shiny Shiny etc..

and how new wave turned into "alternative" and that became the mazinstream and what we now see today as rock..grunge in between..grunge from that punk and new wave though...Soul Asylum, Radiohead, U2 (yes they were new wave punk categorie until they went way global)

now bands have grown up to and onthat and altered it to more rock in general ala

anything not corporate rock was demed new wave damn near...anyting NOT Journey, Stix, Stones, etc

and there is no New Wave...

Slow down, my man, you're asking a lot here. Yes I am a fan of New Wave as you know. No, I'm not from or in the west coast, but yes, I've heard of the radio station KROQ. They have KROQ in New York City, you know? It's 92.3 FM, but now the format is modern alternative rock and hard rock. Occasionally you'll hear Hip-hop hits, but none of that good stuff from the 1980's. Well, actually they play 80's stuff but it's mostly mainstream rock. If you wanna hear 80's pop, rock & new wave there's a station based in Long Island called WLIR. That's an awesome station.

I live in Coumbus, Ohio now and I haven't taken time to find any radio stations that play New wave or 80's pop. I don't listen to the radio anymore. I have so much music of my own that I don't feel the need to anyways. There is a college radio station that plays alternative rock here, but it's mostly modern too. It's a lot like KROQ in NY.

As far as Alternative rock in general, yes I guess it has undergone different forms. First was punk, then post-punk, then new wave, then new pop, then alternative pop/rock, then grunge, and the after the whole indie explosion I don't even know what to call it now. Ther's just sp many subdivisions of the genre now, it's not even funny. But if you notice now there's been a bit of an 80's revival. bands like Interpol, Hot Hot Heat, The Rapture, The Stills,Ima Robot, etc. are taking the sounds of post-punk and new wave and fusing it into their modern rock. I've seen some good results and some bad ones.


Yeah, corporate rock does suck, right? I stay away from bands like Styx, Joruney, Foreigner, and other garbage like that. I do like the Stones. But that is not New Wave, just to clear things up. But then again there was Pat Benetar straddling that fence.

I like them bands that you mentioned and those were the groups that epitomized the magic and specialness of New Wave. I am glad that these new rockers are looking to the 70's & 80's alternative rock as a blueprint for their sound. It shows that they're keeping the spirit of the genre alive.
