... in order to get a hit!!! Can someone please explain in order to get a hit, you must get a song first on the radio first!!!
How is it that record companys feel that if a song isn't a hit, to just move on to the next...when a song doesn't get radio play and if a video isn't shown, how the hell do they expect a hit!!!? These days you must promote the music and videos to get them heard and seen and bought by the public!!! They put so much hype surrounding records, in interviews etc..but theres never any promotion to go along with it! anyone feel the same?

You need radio, but you also need retail...retail is an essential component to moving and making a hit. In fact, in some instances you don't need radio if your units are moving. If your buzz is substantial it will fall into place...along with you bustin yo ass. As far as record companies go, they are running on E. They work understaffed. It is also a very exclusive hiearchy. I say if you want to make a hit, do it independant. It's HARD work, but when you get signed...well there's a large chance you're among the 70 percent that fails or gets shelved. I also suggest you attend as many conferences as you can...you have to pay for info in this biz...sad truth. I hate to use this as an example(because everyone on this board dislikes him, but I respect his gangsta), but Lil Jon has been indi for a better part of the 90's into today. With a great team behind him, they hit the buzz. Finally he went platinum in 2003.
