The Buddha Of Suburbia - and other rare BOWIE!

"The Buddha Of Suburbia" is one of the most criminally 'ignored' albums of the '90s...It's been out of print for what seems like four hundred years now, and I feel very fortunate to have a copy of it! The goddamn sells for a fortune these days...

Does anyone know if there are any plans to re-release this CD? It's getting so rare that I may have to tape a little note to my copy that says, "If you are robbing my apartment, please take anything BUT this CD and my cat. Oh, and my classic horror DVDs. But especially don't touch this CD."

The new re-release of "Black Tie White Noise" is awesome, and I remember that there were plans to once again print his other '90s albums. What the fuck happened to those plans? Anyone help me out here???

Anxiety

The Buddha of Suburbia *WAS* re-released in the late '90s, because it had originally only been released in Europe and was only available in the States as an import - now, I think the US re-issue of this album is also out of print.

I have a copy of the original UK import version, which I got when I lucked out and found it mis-priced at a Best Buy way back in '94...they had mistaken one of the copies of the album for the "Buddha of Suburbia" CD-single when they labeled it, so I got the whole album for under ten bucks, rather than the intended $25.

It's a fantastic piece of music, in my opinion. Pieces of it can be found on the new version of "Sound+Vision", and the instrumental tracks can be found on the (somewhat easier to find) Bowie instrumentals anthology "All Saints".

Meanwhile...

I think it's damn CRIMINAL that the live Bowie album "Stage" has been out of print for so long.

It was re-released here in Europe a couple of years ago and it's not too hard to find here in Holland...

I bet a visit to gemm.com will yield a stray copy of "Buddha of Suburbia" on CD for a reasonable price.

I much prefer to hear the instrumental Bowie stuff on their original albums, but All Saints is nice aural wallpaper for reading, sleeping, etc...

Love it. "The Buddha Of Suburbia", "Dead Against It", and "Untitled No. 1" are some of his greatest songs in recent memory. I kinda like that it's so rare. It just goes to show that he's cultivated something very rare - legendary and cult status simultaneously.

i know, i know... i'm going against the Bowie grain on this one... but to me it sounds like half-baked movie theme music that he probably did in about half a day. Dead Against It, much as I like it, sounds like a weak and underdeveloped version of something from Earthling. The title song - appearing twice, with minimal differences - has a thin production reminiscent of NLMD. Yes there are some interesting moments, but to me B.O.S. has remained in obscurity for a reason - it's a curio, nothing more.

But hey, that's just my opinion smile
