what is the point of MTV's trl? i haven't watched this in years...i just happened to hear that britney had a new video out so i watched, hoping it would be aired. all they showed of the video (and all other videos) was about a 20 second clip. then they were talking about 'retiring' me against the music, as if it was an old video already! i don't get mtv. are they trying to breed ADD or ADHD? why have a video countdown if they don't show the videos? its no wonder record sales are down when kids ae encouraged to forget about artists so quickly. too bad. i am not an old fart by any means...i'm here at a mere 27...but i can say what i never thought i'd say. i feel bad for kids today. their entertainment system is so busted...they are missing out on so much and they aren't even aware of it. I miss the top 20 countdown they used to do. Then again, I don't have cable anymore because of how lousy it is.

I am 35, i know where you come from. MTV annoys me too sometimes. Everything must be fast and they shout 2 much.
But dont underastemate the kids. They still know what good music is. free ur mind

I miss MTV back when it used to matter.
You'll probably never see a Duran Duran video on TRL nowadays. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

The supposed point of TRL is to play the top ten requested videos of the day. That was the ways it used to be.
Nowadays, in a what, 2 hour show, you'll see a snippet of the video and a bunch of other junk. Go figure. Though thru out the week they do play videos in two hour blocks as well as a a show called "video clash", a show that playes requested videos without the dumbass hosts and teenagers. They are doing better with playing actual music videos. TRL is just something for the high schoolers to watch with a snack when they get home from school. And, yes, "Me Against The Music" is not considered fresh anymore, once a video's been out for 3 months it's "yesterday", that's the way it's always been. And music videos are retired after being on the countdown for 60 days. ~KiKi

TRL never used to be that bad when it was in transition from the countdown they used to have. Then that Carson Daly got on it and it was all downhill from there.

it's a marketing tool to push albums, same as anything music related on MTV Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

I think what is funny is that 106 & park has better ratings than TRL. (its just as bad though).

TRL is a pop show for the TEEN & PRE-TEEN market. It isn't meant for anyone in college, out of college or in their 20s. It isn't about substance. It's about trendiness, pop, drooling, fanaticism and youthful obsession. The show is drenched in that. I was an MTV intern, so I know about the inner-workings of the show. You won't find any bohemian, deep music on there, because it's about what's on the surface (image, façade, hooks, looks, gimmicks, sexuality, etc.), not what's beneath. TRL is basically Tigerbeat put to music.

i'm aware that it is geared towards kids...that was never a question. what i don't understand is how they treat kids differently today than they did just 10 years ago. are teens attention spans really that short? mine wasn't. my friends' weren't. its like they WANT you to forget about yesterday (literally) and worry about the release of the minute. maybe its been this way for a while...i mean, i haven't watched videos on mtv in ages. i just thought it was really different than it used to be.
