omg Do you know what you're saying?!!! Kanye is the truth!!!

I'm just glad to see he's doing what hip-hop was based on...sampling. thumbs up!

His style is aped so much it's become passe, unfortunately.

FYI: Kayne still can't touch Primo, a flawless technician. But I am a relatively old head, so I am biased.

My brother said Kanyes album isnt really much 2 talk about and that he isnt really saying anything on the album and the beats all sound somewhat alike. I dunno what 2 believe, but that's still my homeboy. I wanna hear Primo's best work with sampling...where can i find sum gud stuff?

A lot of Kanye's recent hip-hop productions do sound alike (he favors the congas as a background beat in a lot of his music), but in R&B he just seems to stick strictly to the sample (ie Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name" and Monica's "Knock Knock").

I'll be picking up his album regardless of how it sounds because I just like that whole sampling thing with the speeded up vocals. wink

Now...DJ PREMIER IS REALLY THE TRUTH!!! If you want to check out his productions, just cop all the Gangstarr albums. My favorite tracks he's produced thus far are...

The Notorius B.I.G.'-"10 Crack Commandments"
Nas-"Nas Is Like" and "2nd Childhood"
Pitch Black-"It's All Real"
D'Angelo-"Devil's Pie"
Snoop Dogg-"The One and Only"
Gangstarr-"Skillz"

you got that right. dj Premier is the man. as for this Kayne person, i only know of him because they were playing some documentary in my gym and i remember him because i kept thinking how stupid and boring it was to use chaka's song like that. it just kept running her sample while he posed. i couldn't believe it myself that this is what "music" has come to.

I, too, love Chaka, but the way he chopped up the sample and arranged it for his own was really good. Just give it a chance, pimp. Give it a chance. wink

Take your pick of any GangStarr LP, but I would recommend "Step Into The Arena," "Hard To Earn," and "Moment of Truth."

Also check out Jeru The Damaja's "The Sun Rises In The East" and Group Home's only solo LP (subpar lyricism but supreme production).

He's got talent, no doubt, but imitation is the surest way to get yourself ruled obsolete.

All superb. I'd also go with "Dwyck," "Come Clean," "Ex Girl To The Next Girl," "Mass Appeal," and "Supa Star" (for production alone).

nod that's what I'm sayin.

And wouldn't it be great if LA and Babyface could re-team and start producing people again? I'm sure they still have alot of great songs in them.

Premier produced a beat for Sonya Blade in 2001. She never really went anywehre, but she was hottt. too hard to be a female I guess, and she got sued for her name... but the beat was sick...and right now I can't think of the name of the record...someone know what the track's name was?

Kayne West? You mean that chipmunk verison of "Through The Fire"? That is, as Simon would say, "Ghastly!". Hate to rain on your parade but holy crap that's awful!

Listen, I like some of his stuff as a producer but if you even like Chaka Khan you cringe at what he has done to something like "Through The Fire". Terrible!

That's fuckin' hip-hop! It wasn't made to sound like the original...and even if he did use the original, there would still be people complaining about it.

I love Stevie Wonder's music to death, but I'm not going to get upset because a producer decided to sample his music. I personally think Timbaland did a good job of sampling "Visions" for Ginuwine's "I'll Do Anything/I'm Sorry." That's just the music of today.
