Top Music Expert: Britney Spears Is A Musical Genius!!

Taken from: www.weeklyworldnews.com/n...ceid=60328

If you think Britney Spears is a lightweight pop princess whose chief assets are her flat belly, perky boobs and cute, fast-wiggling bubble butt, get ready to start singing a different tune. A leading musicologist claims the blonde superstar is a musical genius!

"It takes a trained ear to appreciate Miss Spears' remarkable talent," declares Bernard Creighton-Limm, a renowned composer and music theorist. "To the three Bs -- Bach, Brahms and Beethoven -- you can add a fourth: Britney."

While to the untrained ear, Britney's chart-topping hits may sound like generic bubble-gum pop geared to the teenybopper set, the British expert insists that her music is loaded with sophisticated techniques.

"Miss Spears' ingenious use of advanced musical techniques such as agogic accent, deceptive cadence and melisma is astonishingly brilliant -- it hearkens back to the golden age of classical music," enthuses Creighton- Limm, who voiced his sentiments at a symposium of fellow musicologists held at Oxford University.

"Despite her youth, Miss Spears' body of work puts her on a par with the best that Western culture has ever produced. "And the fact that her work is so accessible to the masses makes it all the more awe-inspiring."

I don't doubt for a second that her PRODUCERS AND WRITERS know what they are doing -- a collective "genius" if you will.

I read similar academic analysis of Spice Girls when I was studying music theory.

Like the article is a joke (looks like it is from Weekly World News)..

But any mega-pop hit by Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, N'Sync, or anything that Diane Warren ever wrote are composed with serious music theory in mind, which all goes back to Bach.

I'll say this now and i'll say it again, 'Hit me Baby One More Time' is a fantastic pop record. One of the best in the last 10 years.

Genius though? i don't think so.

I like to play and sing "Baby One More Time" with an acoustic guitar in front of an unsuspecting crowd (who may have had too much to drink). Opens everybody's eyes nod

Exactly! Britney is a joke and I truly wish she would just go away. I think she is one of the least talented performers out there and her recent publicity stunts (the kiss and the marriage) are enough to make me puke. When will people realize that she is nothing but a glorified stripper who can also lip-sync well?

I think most people realize "that she is nothing but a glorified stripper who can also lip-sync well". I just think that some people (less and less as she releases more albums) like her music (well, in most cases her producers and colloborator's music). You'd think that Britney's Spears existance was the worst thing to happen since the plaque. She ain't hurting nobody but herself. If you don't like her, don't listen. It's not like you have to warn the people of the world "The Britney is coming!". I just don't get that.

I find it appalling that she is selling so many records all over the world making millions and millions when she has no talent whatsoever. There are so many excellent singers and musicians that will never sell even one album who have more talent in their baby finger than Britney will ever have. It astonishes me that some people want to listen to such crap when there is so much great music out there to listen to. I like catchy little pop tunes too, but her music is just plain awful IMO.

Exactly.

An analysis of pop music in theory is often based on the work of Bach. Bach is the blueprint from which all of our western music theory is based on.

All of those megapop songs follow every rule for musical cadences and pitch.

Often when songs follow a common chord progression, it sounds boring to some people but becomes a big hit (Britney "Baby One More Time"). This is also why Black Eyed Peas had such a big hit with "Where Is The Love" but I hated it. Basic major/minor scales.

Bach is the musical genius here.

But she can't lip-sync well. I tried to watch a bit of her HBO concert "performance". I couldn't stomach it, I was so digusted.

nod

But the sad thing is, sometimes with these pop tunes, there are like 6 people or more working on a song to make it "great". Formulas.

lol I also like "Slave For You" boxed

BUT I wouldn't call Britney Spears a genius. It's her producers that make great dance records (or so I thought). I'm wondering now how much of the music is her. I mean did this top music expert read the production notes? I sure haven't.

barf I can't stand that track because it was SUCH a rip off of Nasty Girl. I remember catching a "live" version of Crazy on some music awards show and thinking DAMN, her musicial director is REALLY good. The new arrangement reminded me of Prince's American Music Award performance.

When I return to the midwest to visit family, I frequent a bar in northern Kentucky. Occasionally, an acoustic guitarist plays there, and he does the same thing! Drops it into his set after people (usually myself included) have been drinking a while.

This Blink182ish band opened for Duran Duran I think, a couple of years ago and they did a punked out version of Larger Than Life by the Backstreet Boys. It was fricken GREAT! I kept thinking, I know I've heard this song before, what is it? Then they got to the chorus and I was in shock. I was like, uh-uh! No they didn't! But they did. Funny stuff.

That's precisely the reason I love the song. It's the best "Nasty Girl" rip off I've ever heard! boxed

And the only Britney song I can tolerate.

Totally.. it brought about a Nasty Girl resurgence. I can name three house remix/bootlegs of NG that hit after Slave.
