just downloaded "she wants to move". awesome. I was afraid that it wouldn't sound as good recorded as it does live but my fears have been erased.

i'm not that excited about 'she wants to move' really. it's a bit monotonous and nothing new. the live instrumentation isn't as loose (but still tight) and interesting as performed by spymob. it seems looped by the way. and the chorus is pretty lame. as are the verses though..

but i did hear 'don't worry about it'--also a new song from 'fly or die'--on gilles peterson's bbc radioshow. it's fire! this song is also a bit monotonous; only the bridge brings you something new. still it's hot though. it has more melody (in the vocals). pharrel's singing is excellent. especially in his lyrical delivery.

lyrically; both songs are pretty simple. musically; it's always nice to hear something new by n.e.r.d. and vocally; i like pharrel's voice (more on 'don't worry..' though).

these two songs aren't on the 'in search of' level unfortunately. they're both good, but not that good imo. i'll buy the new album for sure though..
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain
i'm high, so high

I agree that 'don't worry about it' is better than 'she wants to move' but I like them both. I don't know, I'm just feeling them. Both songs are definitely different from 'in search of' and the guys have said as much in their interviews. My opinion is that 'in search of' is grittier and, from the songs that I've heard thus far, 'fly or die' is a bit more polished. Personally, I would find it disappointing if n.e.r.d gave us another 'in search of'.

I do agree that pharrell's voice and vocal delivery on 'don't worry about it' are excellent. Let's face it, he's no Prince, but he really knows how to work with what he's got.

I just posted this on another thread but I got to hear the new single (the name I cannot remember) the other day and it's a crazy single. It was like 3 different styles of music in one...jazz/rock/hip hop. It was really cool...I got a 'Steely Dan meets Neptunes meets Santana-ish guitar loop' vibe from the initial listen. It's not too radio-friendly but with 'out of left field' songs by Outkast and Kylie doing well at radio...this one could do well too. Virgin plans to service a second single to Rhythm/R&B radio in February as well.

Being that 'In Search Of' sold almost entirly on word of mouth since Virgin was in transition at the time. Expect FLY OR DIE to recieve a huge push. Virgin has already made pre-awareness posters and postcards and email blasts that began in November. The intial shipment goal is 450,000 with a forcasted 125-150k sold in the first week.

Plus this is Virgin's chance to patch things up with Pharrel who was upset over the handling of the last record and the refusal to release Kelis' second album WANDERLAND in the states.
