Adam Ant

Anyone else here really like his stuff? I did, but I have to say I wasn't a hardcore fan or anything. He was a little more on the punk side and at the time, I was leaning more towards New Wave. I did, however, like some of his major stuff, especially the songs he had out in later years (late 90s). Plus, I think I was more into him and the image that he put forth. Very cool, and very handsome in his day.

I was surfing last night about him and see that he's had a REALLY hard time. sad It's sad to see what's happened to him and I hope he finds a way out of it. Apparently, there was a documentary on him in England that was supposed to be really good. Wish they'd release that here in the states. I wonder what caused him to go over the edge like that?

Ur no. I saw a programme on Adam Ant on UK tv last year. The guy genuinely didn't do ANY drugs or drink. He had a long history of mental problems, which he managed to keep at bay by basically overworking during the fame years. When his popularity went down and he was less in demand, he started having serious breakdowns.

Ur no. It wasn't cocaine with him at all.

Adam kicked butt on early MTv and always reminded me of Prince in some ways...The guy had a lot of talent and as shapeshifter pointed out, he has mental problems that are totally unrelated to drugs...Ozzy-drug use-M. Ali-boxing (unproven, but please )-Adam Ant-Mental illness (family history)...It's a shame that Ozzy is the most well known to this younger generation...I mean the love he has for his wife is beautiful but he caused alot of his own physical problems.

Shapeshifter:

I was about to say the same thing. I didn't see the documentary, but I read up on him last night on the web. He indeed was not a drug user. As a matter of fact, they say that he had it written into his contract that anyone around him who used drugs was to be immediately fired! He was adamant (no pun intended) about that.

As for the documentary: Can you UK folks please, please, please, tell me if this is available for purchase? I emailed that TV station channel 4, but haven't heard anything yet. I would LOVE to see that.

Also, in the documentary, what happened during his childhood that contributed to his ongoing sadness??

I really feel for him, I mean REALLY. I've been through depression before, but nothing like what he's going through.

And on a purely frivilous note, he was FOINE in his day boy!

Th e last time I saw his show was in 1992 at a KROQ venture..he was badass. He even sang "Physical" and he got the respect he deserved that night. Sad about his recent problems. I had no idea he sufdfered from any mental illness sad

I don't think his popularity has waned that much..if he decided to go on tour again he could sell out theaters etc methinks.

get well A

Okay. He's great.

Until you go track down his remake of "Stand and Deliver" - SAVE THE GORILLAS. Sigh. I'm impressed that he's taking a stand, but, hooo. Kinda painful to sit thru.

That's cool to hear that he did well that night.

Otan:

No, I haven't hear the remake you're talking about. I might hit up amazon to see if there are sound clips for it.

He was just one of the definitive icons of the New Wave. I really hope my boy does get it together. I'd love to hear a new album or something from him.
