The Cure 'Join The Dots' Box Set

This box set is being sold by two different record companies: Rhino and Universal. The Universal copy is twice the price of the Rhino copy.
Can anyone tell me why? Is the Universal a better quality product.
Doesn't Rhino Records have a reputation for putting out really cheap stuff?

I think Rhino is (definitely once was) a sub of WEA. They release new CDs from older artists (mostly artist compiles) and there's nothing cheap about them as far as quality goes.

Universal Music has their own sub like this, Hipp-O. With that, this is very confusing to me.

The Universal release has to either offer a lot more or be an import issue. I'm betting it's an import.

"Disintegration [Elektra, 1989]
With the transmutation of junk a species of junk itself, an evasion available to any charlatan or nincompoop, it's tempting to ignore this patent arena move altogether. But by pumping his bad faith and bad relationship into depressing moderato play-loud keyb anthems far more tedious than his endless vamps, Robert Smith does actually confront a life contradiction. Not the splintered relationship, needless to say, although the title tune is a suitably grotesque breakup song among unsuitably grotesque breakup songs. As with so many stars, even "private" ones who make a big deal of their "integrity," Smith's demon lover is his audience, now somehow swollen well beyond his ability to comprehend, much less control. Hence the huge scale of these gothic cliches. And watch out, you mass, 'cause if you don't accept this propitiation he just may start contemplating suicide again. Or take his money and go home. C+

Robert Christgau.

Robert Smith (lead vocals) of The Cure had the following to say about the international release of his CD's.

(ALTHOUGH OF COURSE IT'S NOT QUITE AS STRAIGHTFORWARD AS THIS -
THE UK AND JAPANESE VERSIONS OF THE ALBUM WILL INCLUDE 'THE CATERPILLAR' AND 'PICTURES OF YOU'
BUT EXCLUDE 'THE WALK'...
THE USUAL SUPER WEAK REASONING TO DO WITH IMPORTS... ONCE AGAIN - PLEASE DON'T ASK US... )

WHICH COMPRISES NEWLY RECORDED LIVE ACOUSTIC VERSIONS OF ALL 18 'HITS' SONGS
WITH BORIS WILLIAMS JOINING US ON PERCUSSION...

(WELL IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FREE - BUT WE THINK IN AMERICA IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO COST
AN EXTRA COUPLE OF DOLLARS FOR THE 2CD PACK...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T ASK US!!!)

Personally I don't care about the cost of their cd's, it's all about the music and quality, from one of the greatest bands ever. Rock On. horns

That definately used to be their reputation, but over the last 10 years or so, they've become THE reissue label, known for excellent packaging, deep liner notes, and excellent selections. Check out their site. I've got no qualms at all about this box coming out on this label.
Keep your headphones on.

Just as long as "Stop Dead" and "Throw Your Foot" is included, I would be more than happy to hunt this mofo down.

I believe he's speaking about the Greatest Hits package that came out a couple years ago, not 'Join The Dots'.

I never did indicate he was speaking about ~Join The Dots~, I said he had the following to say about international release of HIS CD'S (generally speaking).
