Ben Folds- Rockn The Suburbs

I am highly into Ben and Ben Folds Five, and hearin one of his first solo material, I think he is a wonderful artist with a lot of talent. He did all the instruments on this album, and hopefully his new album comin soon will be a pleasure like this one. EVERY song on this one I dig, he's got some mad piano skills on it and I've learned a lot from his (Rough playin), he's an excellent pianist because of the confidence in his playing..

"I got sh*t runnin' throught my brain
It's so intense that I can't explain
All alone in my white-boy pain
Shake your booty while the band complains

In a haze these days
I pull up to the stop light
I can feel that something's not right
I can feel that someone's blasting me with hate
And bass
Sendin' dirty vibes my way
'Cause my great great great great Grandad
Made someones' great great great great Grandaddies slaves
It wasn't my idea
It wasn't my idea
Never was my idea

I just drove to the store
For some Preparation-H"

Haha that is far the most funniest/craziest one, in which he is ripping on the Limp Bizkit types throughout the song.

its funny that the title track is the only track on here like that.. the others are very different in writing style, and melody.. he churned out some beautiful melodies on this one

Every Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five CD is fantastic beginning through end. And this one might be my favorite. I can't wait for the new album. Such a talent and a great songwriter...

Sdldawn,

Do you know whatever happened to that "third EP"? Did he kinda give up on that, or is "The Bens" supposed to be the third one?

I wish he'd update his site a little more often- but hey, it could always be NPGMC and get updated twice a year.

Yeah, I dont think it fell through, so he is gonna just pay more attention toward the new album instead of the ep.. which is fine with me. smile

Ben folds has been one of my favs too, great songs and hooks. I was very happy that I liked the solo stuff as much as I liked when Darren and Jesse were around.

The eps are pretty good stuff. The dvd from the sessions show on pbs is also a must have.

The live solo album also is impressive.

I was lucky enough to see BNF 5 back in 98 before they broke up.
Music is the best...

Robert Christgau really hates Ben Folds. He gave the live album an F review? omfg Here's another of his dumb reviews.

"The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner [Sony, 1999]
What jerks melody inflicts on us. With no connection to any human virtue of substance, the catchy tune ushers all manner of unpleasant personality traits into our lives. And if this smart aleck is less dangerous than Fred Durst, he also does less with what he was given. For sure he's less original musically (as opposed to melodically) no matter how many piano lessons he took, banging away like a garage guitarist with the occasional fancy stuff to prove he has a right--God, Joe Jackson was more fun. And although he also throws in the occasional well-turned sentiment to prove he has a right--"Don't Change Your Plans" and "Mess" are recommended to nice guys seeking covers--his basic program remains revenge-of-the-nerd. He al ways knew he was smarter than whoever and ever amen. He always knew there were people who'd admire him just because he was clever. And unfortunately, he was right. B"

the third ep has been cancelled- ben realized how ambitious it was to try to come up with three satisfactory eps, in addition to an album.

the plan now is to include one song from each of the two released eps, and 10 new tracks on the new as-yet-untitled album, to be released in march.
now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

HAHAHAHAHA sorry, I got respect for ure posts and such.. but this is totally NOT TRUE.. I got more stuff on Ben that prince couldnt do if he tried..

No way, this man has more confidence in his playin, he is just too damn good.. I got some stuff of him freestylin and he is just simply amazing.. there is NO Comparison.. Ben is probably one of the most strongest pianist in his league..

sorry, but prince is not even on his level... by anymeans.. And I got all of prince's demos, studio and everything in between..

I never used to give two shits about Ben Folds...I remember hearing "Brick" all over the radio and hating it but I saw him this past summer with Tori Amos and he absolutely blew me away! "Rockin the Suburbs" is awesome but I like "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn faces" along with "Rock this Bitch!" He gave an explanation of "Rock This Bitch" and did a rap version of it that was hilarious! Funniest part was that there was this old lady and a 6 year old girl sitting next 2 me, and the lady asked me if he was some local guy when he first went on. But then Ben started dropping F bombs and stuff and the lady got up all disgusted and left! lol

I got The Bens EP, and its very nice, and all 4 jams are great, but the vocals on track 1 and 4 have ben folds on, and they just stick out the most.. I love Ben's voice (folds)

I will say this, After Ben Folds new album comes out, I hope he does a full album with the bens, cause they harmonize great and its a neat concept they got goin there.
