Marvin Gaye's 'Here My Dear' - Underrated Genius! Damn, I love this album. It's immensely long and actually feels even longer when u listen to it, but that's the beauty of it. So many different things to sing about within the topic of a failed marriage.
Ups and downs, anger, happiness, regret, fond reminiscences. The album has some of Marvin's best vocals and is at turns passionate, at others sarcastic or bitter. I love this album and I think it's an incredible piece of work, considering he first thought he'd bang out something quickly without putting his all into it. Whatdya think?

Whatdya think? this album was the part of a divorce agreement from Anna Gaye,i think.. she was to recieve all the proceeds from this album so therein the title "here my dear" serves as sarcasm on Marvin's part. but all in all its a work of a truly gifted genius who was taken away all too soon

It's Marvin's last masterpiece, soul's "In The Wee Small Hours Of the Morning". Massively - and tragically - underrated. "When Did I Stop Loving You, When Did You Stop Loving Me?" should be spoken of in the same breath as "I Want You" or "Let's Get It On".

Such a beautiful album this is.
I just love listening 2 this 1 all thru. It really take U 2 another place. From the first chords & Marvins voice I guess I have 2 say, this album is dedicated... ..2 U...so HERE IT IS! Those amazing backupharmonies he does on "Here my dear/I met a little girl".Give´s me the chill. Even the artwork 2 this album is a masterpiece. I mean the back of the album & the painting of Marvins hand handing over the album 2 his wife over a game of monopoly.Yes,I love this album! /peace Manki

"Here My Dear" is hands down one of the greatest albums ever made and my favorite MG record.Vocally,I've never heard anyone come close to what the man was doing here. "Pam...that's just stupid."

"When Did You Stop Loving Me..." is awesome. Yet another example of Marvin's brilliance with vocal layering and his flair for melody. The lyrics are SO personal. "Anna's Song" is also incredibly touching. He actually paints the picture right there for you. This is art, people . I'm gonna listen to it right now. Thanx for starting this thread!!

I'm going to have to check this one out. It always sounded like an interesting album and I know the background but don't know any of the songs.

from what I understand the album was initially going to be a album of fluf since Anna was going to get the royalties. However, once Marvin started recording he got into it.
It is truly underrated.. I hope they do a dleuxe version like they did for What going on, let's get it on, and I want u. someone mentioned the vocal harmonies. they are layers of textured genius seeping out of every track. good stuffis!!! Music is the best...
