White Singers Black Backup singers ....

Have you ever noticed when a white performer sings, he/she often have black background singers? First instant,I noticed how Sting always have black background singers when he performs and Celine Dione. Is this becayse, they are they trying 2 find more soul then what they really have?

I think they simply appreciate black/R&B-styled vocals in their music. Many White artists (Rolling Stones,Madonna,David Bowie,Pat Benatar, etc) have used Black artists on their tours and on their albums.Santana has had numerous Black lead singers in his band.

Terrance Trent D'arby always used white back-up singers. I don't think "soul" has anything to do with it. I think it's more of a sound they are looking for. What would you say about black singers with black back-up singers? Do you think they didn't have enough soul and that's why they chose them?

Fair enough. My guess is u need, some power and depth, and mayb even a little soul, as u put it, to b a decent background singer. And those qualities r probably more widely available among black black singers. Madonna ain't much of a singer as is, but i can imagine she'd b usesless as a background singer.

On New Year's Eve Donna Summer performed "Last Dance" on tv and her backup singers were white! (One of 'em was her husband Bruce Sudano.)

It's just over the yrs I've notice this and that's why I asked the question why and in somewhat it is about soul, I don't think you'll see Aretha Franklin with white background singers unless she was doing some type of pop song or something, see what am I saying? I was having this dicussion the other day with one of my music teachers and he said he thinks it's because, they want 2 sound more soulful

speaking of Madonna...I remember that,in 1987 when she was preparing her 'Who's That Girl' tour, she specifically told her manager that she wanted two black female vocalists. Her roots are in R&B music anyway,so that's not surprising.

You're onto something here. I've always wondered why they always place those same black background singers behind mics with black microphone stands. You see? You see?

It's almost as if they want to start some sort of black power struggle -- the singers behind the stands.

And, if you look real close, you'll see the microphone heads have silver mesh. That's to symbolize the new chains being used in this entertainment slave trade. hmmm

And, hold on now, did you ever notice how those same black background singers trapped behind the black microphones with the slave-chain silver microphone heads have to stand under the WHITE lights on stage?? You know the white lights are the hottest ones, right? mad

And, I bet you noticed how the monitors on the stage are always black, right? I bet that didn't escape you either. Have you ever wondered why black pickguards for the bassist & guitarists' instruments are always harder to find than white pickguards?

This thread's about to expose the conspiracy!!! We're behind you 100%!!! woot!

But you know what? They always look and sound fantastic, most of the time better than the main singer, so I think they should trade places. So there.

y'all are silly!!lol!!but, seriously, where are all the chinese or japanese background singers?can't they sing,as well?and sting uses musicians and singers of every race and backgrouind.they all bring something to the mix.the stones get down-n-dirrrty with the bluies and gospel-tinged songs and soulful southern rock.sistas created that sound, but there are plenty of girls from other races that can do that now, too.look at the steelyd an dvd.

I personally dont care if they are black white green or orange, as long as they can sing it in the way they want it to be, its all good..

Color doesnt consume my mind, and I must say, any color can be soulful..

Remember when Mariah Carey had all those black backup singers (and sometimes a black choir)? Did that make her seem even more soulful?

The question was about white singers with black back-up singers, not black singers with black back-up singers

There must be a Prince.org award for being the first person to stray from the topic.

And I did in 2x in the same thread!

lovebizzare

my guess is that they just sound really good...rolleyes

They probably audition singers (white, balck, purple, blue, whatever) and find/pick the best

Not everyone who uses balck back-up singers add 'soul' to their music...I have NEVER heard a 'soulful' rendition of "the power of love" or any frickin' Sting song
