Let's predict Pop music in 2004!

I came across a music site with some predictions about 2004, musicwise...

(here's the link, for those who read Dutch: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3v...=15741384)

These are the questions they posed for 2004:

1. what will be the biggest band/act in 2004?
2. who'll make a big comeback in 2004?
3. who should shut up in 2004?
4. Who will die in 2004
5. what's YOUR musical wish for 2004?

So, orgers - let's hear it!

My answers:

1. If they come up with a new album, Destiny's Child
2. I'd like to say Prince, but that's not going to happen... I heard the Pixies are planning a reunion...
3. Britney. She's just not hot anymore.
4. That could be Ozzy Osbourne... sad
5. Another Prince album & tour. And a new Björk album.

your turn smile

Biggest band/act of 2004: OutKast. The momentum will continue as they keep pulling singles from this album. 14 weeks after release, and Speakerboxxx/TLB is #1 again (3rd time it's ascended to the pole position after dropping). See, evil RIAA bastards? This is what happens when the music's good!

If Janet's album is as good as Rhythm Nation or Control (yeah, right), then she could be "it" again.

Biggest comeback in 2004: Donna Summer and/or Jody Watley. I can hope, right? "You're So Beautiful" seems to be building career momentum for Donna (#6 on the dance club play charts right now), so hopefully we'll see a new album from her. And Jody, please come back!

Who should shut up in 2004: Britney, Christina, Ozzy Ozbourne (in fact the entire useless family - how'd they hit it big? our pop culture needs rehab), many more people that I can't think of right now

Who will die in 2004: No morbid speculation for me. Wait -if I had to place a bet, I'd place it on Michael Jackson though. He looks like he's wasting away. His health doesn't look good. It will either be that or suicide. We'll see.

What's my musical wish for 2004: A new Donna Summer album, a new Jody Watley album, a Madonna comeback (well, at least 1 dazzling new single towards the end of 2004), and a Janet album devoid or orgasms and rain storms and full of songs that are simply fucking great. No more bloated cum-fests (All For You, anyone?) k thx Janet.

disbelief I don't care much for Pop music anymore. Most of it is just pointless drivel. It wasn't like the Pop of 20 years ago, that's for damn sure. I'll stick with my oldies and underground stuff, thank you very much.

I have high hopes for the new Lauryn Hill CD,but I'm beginning to worry that her recent behavior might make it hard for her to bounce back.

I eagerly await the new CDs from Stevie Wonder,Jamiroquai and Remy Shand.

Santana will release a new instrumental CD called 'Hymns', sans all the guest stars and pop indulgences of his last two albums. That should be an interesting return to form for him.

Earth Wind and Fire will release a new CD in 2004,featuring production work from Musiq,D'Angelo,Raphael Saadiq and Andre from Outkast. This could prove to be a comeback of sorts for them. They also plan to tour with Chicago.

Comeback? Janet has stayed successful over the past 20 years. She never went anywhere.

perhaps comeback wasn't the right word, which is why i put it in inverted commas cos i couldnt really think of the right one, forthcoming/upcoming cd doesn't sound as good. If you look at the media, someone who's been away for just a few years taking a break or whatever and then releases something, that project is often referred to as a 'comeback' even though it kinda defys the whole definition of it, for example i've heard ppl call the diary of alcia keys a 'comeback', and also missys last album (even though under construction was only released a year before) and so on. But anyways I'm a big janet fan so i always look forward to her new albums and the hype that surrounds it

I'll say music takes another huge money loss in 2004 forcing more singers and rappers into starting clothing lines and doing bad parts in movies.

I know, me too. I love All For You because it was Janet, but it is, without a doubt, my least favorite Janet album next to Dream Street. But I have a feeling Janet isn't going to disappoint with this one.

I thought AFY had some great tracks on there such as Son of a gun, you aint right, trust a try and better days etc but it felt like they really rushed it. China love and when we ooo were cool but the rest of the love/sex songs just came across really desperate. the whole sex theme on velvet rope and janet was so much smoother, i thought she took it to far on AFY to the point that it wasn't sexy just amusing. Im hoping the old janet comes back on this album and brings back Tina Landon as her cheographer (sp?) if she decides to go for the dance routines again.

I never really answered the orginal post so here goes

1. what will be the biggest band/act in 2004?
hoping its janet

2. who'll make a big comeback in 2004?
i wish its prince but probably duran duran or something lol

3. who should shut up in 2004?
the neptunes/nerd whatever, they are producing at least one song on every new album, its too predictable now, i love some of the stuff they've done but i'd like to hear some new producers for a change, there must be some great unknown producers that someone artist will take a chance on

oh and justin timberlake because hes irratating

4. Who will die in 2004
i dont wanna jinx anybody...

5. what's YOUR musical wish for 2004?
im asking for three smile
prince comes back to london
Erykah Badu comes over aswell and Jill Scott as i missed both erykah and jill the last times they came
and they find a vault with enough TLC and Aaliyah material that they can release another few great albums

Yeah, I agree about all for you. The Velvet Rope and janet. were sexy and sensual, but All For You was just plain sex. "Would You Mind" is just about her least-sexy song ever.
