VENT: Kelis tours with Britney

OK, I tolerated the masses of teen drones incessantly screeching the hook of Milkshake this fall. Now, Kelis is touring with Britney in 2004.

It has gone too far.

::shakes head:: Not cool. I can't believe Kelis played herself out like that. Come on, Kelis, you're above doing a Britney show. It didn't work for Nikka Costa when she opened for Britney a couple of years back and I doubt it'll work for Kelis. I can't stand it. No. No. No.

I wanted to see her next year, too. I won't now. I'm not paying an inflated ticket price to sit in an arena with prepubescent white girls, soccer moms, and diva-obsessed gay bois, just to see Kelis open up with 3 or 4 songs. I can see the set list now: Caught Out There, Milkshake, Get Along With You, Young, Fresh N' New, In Public. TRASH! Where's Perfect Day? Mars? In The Morning? Ghetto Children? Little Suzie? Game Show? Mafia? Suspended? Shooting Stars? Her rousing renditions of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit (she killed this song back in the summer of 2000 at the Glastonbury Music Festival) or the Eurhythmic's Sweet Dreams like with shows past?

1999 through 2001 were killer years to see Kelis live. European fans were incredibly lucky to see Kelis headline shows back in the budding stages of her career. I would've killed to see her live at the Astoria back in August of '01 (or any European tour date). I would've loved to catch her at Hultsfredsfestivalen in 2000.

I'm sorry, but Britney fans in [Insert-Corporate-Name-Here] arenas aren't going to wave their hands and light their cell phones to Rolling Through The Hood or Marathon, nor will they appreciate the Saadiq-produced grooves Glow or Attention -- hell, the average Britney fan probably wouldn't know who (or what a) SAADIQ is.

Kelis' management played her with this move, that's for sure.

Yes, Kelis will achieve the fame she's destined for, and it's a long time coming, but damn, I sure loved it when I was one of a cultish few who knew her and grooved to her music back in the lubricious Kaleidoscope/Wanderland days -- when she was a little-known secret.

Hopefully, this Britney-opener thing is a short stint and we'll get a full-fledge headliner or multi-artist tour with more credible artists later on in '04. Only time and my patience will tell.

diva-obsessed gay bois, JANFAN4L]

and Janet concerts don't have diva obsessed gay bois???It's our homeland!!

Anyway I get what your saying though, however alot of great artists have toured with mainstream crap
Remember the "BEASTIE BOYS" they opened for Madonna in the 80's, tell me they weren't feeling like shit, but it paid off

At least there might be some good music on this Britney tour, then. That'll be a first.

Jan, don't you think you're being just a little bit over dramatic? You'd think that Kelis sold her soul to the devil. Heaven forbid she actually try to get people to here her new album and appeal to a new audience (to be honest, I'm not sure what her audience is now if she even has one). As for the tracklast that you made up (Caught Out There, Milkshake, Get Along With You, Young, Fresh N' New, In Public) it doesn't sound to bad. Kelis has had a few hits and I would love to hear them live. Then again, I'm just getting into Kelis right now and I'm not as big a fan as you are but I think that trying new things like this aren't the end of the world. Now if she does an embrassing cover with Britney, that could be a whole other story.

Kelis supporting Britney is a joke, i'd love to see kelis live, being in england i've had the chance a few times but i dont really appreciate festivals, they seem too unhygenic. Anyway if she were to do a show by herself i'd definatley go, however theres no way im paying to see her for 30 miniutes and then have to endure a couple hours of britney.
As for selling out thats her choice, i actually thought her first album was the most mainstream, her last album wasn't in my opinion reminscent of a 'sell-out'. Either way as long as Kelis doesn't start taking music tips from britney its cool lol yay for her trying to reach another audience tho

Kelis's last 2 albums are in a league of their own
Her new one is nice, it's softer than the other 2
Her 2001 album "WANDERLAND" was rock/soul, hip hop very N.E.RD sound, on her last album she was bugged out on dope singing about everything from God to being paranoid about aliens

I LOVE Kelis, and I'm very disappointed that she's touring with Britney. She has so much more talent than to be opening for garbage.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

Sometimes the mentality of people on this site shocks me. The racism that exists (even on a music message board) is disgusting!

"...prepubescent white girls..."

Are you kidding me?

In order to help you through your ill-conceived notions, I will inform you that I am going to see Britney Spears live when she comes to my town. I am going with several people. None of us are prepubescent. All of us are white. We all know who Saadiq is.

From a promotional standpoint,Kelis would be a fool to turn down the opportunity to tour with a huge act like Britney.she's going to get major exposure to the pop crowd, and it will help her reach a wider audience.

Not to mention making a nice piece of paper. Artists make little to no money from album sales, but make it of performances. She's seeing dollar signs. We're all in the belly of the beast, jump in and play the game, sweetheart.

I've read the comments in here and I agree with the overall consensus. I guess Miss Kelis wants some cheddar/mozzarella in her bank account and a platinum plaque, so this is the road her team said she had to take. I'll stand behind the girl, but I'm still not going to a [expletive] Britney concert.

Also, I think being one of the original Kelis Kids from back in the day I'm kinda selfish. I see Kelis as a good thing and I don't to share her with the rest of the world. I want people to know about her, yes. But then it's like damn, I loved it when she was under-the-radar and only the real peeps knew about her. But get that cheddar Kelis, make the mozzarella I suppose.
