A Metamorphis of the music business Signing a record contract is kind of signing your soul 2 devil. The only difference is instead of using blood , you use ink 2 sign your signature and once you do, the label owns ur soul 4 eternity. Just look at the music business 2day and tell me if you don't see tourtered souls that are going 2 be damned forever, I'm telling you. the music business is the devil. I see why Prince did what he felt like he had to do.

There are many artists that are actually HAPPY with their record deals. It depends on a lot of things. Not every record contract is bad. Label deals lead to other income sources these days (product endoresments, for women: make-up commercials, etc.) Those other deals usually pay WELL. I bet Beyonce made just as much as her deal was for in a year when she did her commercial for pepsi. Same goes for her Revlon commercial. Those PAY WELL. pop stars get lots of perks. Some are content with them and some aren't. It usually the ones that aren't that speak negatively of their contracts in public, thus dooming their future in the biz. I think if an artist takes more control of their career, they will subsequently make more money. The bad thing is that recently, labels are starting to want a piece of the tour $$$. In the past, this was an artists' REAL income source. Now THIS has to be STOPPED! Its such an ugly system. To make the big $$$ you need the big venues, to get the big venues you have to have major radio rotation and record sales. To get major record sales, you have to be...see the viscious cycle? Ugly, but some artists have no problems operating within the parameters they are given. Soon, label deals are gonna change drastically anyway. We'll see how the business operates after that. I'm trying so hard not 2 sound like Prince, but it is like being a slave 2 the system. Once you've reached 2 the top, there's only one way 2 go, which is what we're seeing now with the whole Micheal Jackson case, right now .
