LOL...no,there REALLY is a group called "Sly Slick and Wicked"! Their big hit was "Confessin A Feeling"(1972).They are NOT to be confused with a group called The Lost Generation, who actually had a hit single called "The Sly,Slick and Wicked"(1970).I know,it's confusing...lol

Does that clear things up for ya? lol

Oh, that was tricky. I confused the song with the group too! Sorta like how some folks (not me) confuse Brick's "Dazz" with the Dazz Band ("Let It Whip"). smile

since I've seen all of these artists at previous oldies shows,I can tell you what to expect...

***The Mary Jane Girls---This group now has only ONE original member, the lead singer JoJo.The other girls are new.Still, they put on a good performance, singing "Candy Man","All Night Long" and "In My House".

***Blue Magic---these are my boys!! I'm not sure if these are all the original members, but they kick ass. They're gonna sing "Spell","Sideshow" (of course) and a few other songs (I think "Stop To Start" was one of them).

***One Way---very disappointing when I saw them in '98.They're not even a band,it was just one guy (Al Hudson?).He came out and did "Cutie Pie" and "Mr.Groove".Not really a memorable performance but maybe this time he will kick ass?

***Bloodstone---the crowd goes CRAZY for these guys!! when the lead singer hits that high note during "We Go A Long Way Back",it's amazing!! They're gonna perform "Natural High","Who Has The Last Laugh Now" and "Outside Woman".

***Malo---the young,long-haired lead singer looks alot like Finess..lol...but seriously, these guys rock.a mesmerizing blend of Latin rocl/R&B,highlighted by the early 70s classic "Suavecito".

***Billy Paul---surprisingly,he still looks like he did in the early 70s,tall,skinny and bald...lol...and his voice still sounds great."Me and Mrs.Jones" ALWAYS sounds great in a live setting.

***The Delegation---the lead singer comes out solo and sings "Mr.Heartbreak" before moving on to "Oh Honey".

***Barbara Mason---this lady is feisty as hell!!! You should see the way she flirts with the young guys in the audience...lol...she even brought one guy up onstage, took off his shirt and even went for his belt!! It was hilarious. She's gonna sing "Oh How It Hurts" and her signature hit "Yes,I'm Ready".

***The Fuzz---alot of between-song chatter, but once they launch into their big hit "I Love You For All Seasons",all is forgiven.

***Sly Slick and Wicked---for the most part, these guys are basically a cover band, and many of their hits are remakes of other artist's songs. But they're cool, funny guys with alot of charisma.Their dreamy hit "Confessin A Feeling" is an underrated R&B gem.

***Tierra---they stole the show at a few other Super Oldies concerts that I attended. They're gonna do stuff like "Zoot Suit Boogie","Gonna Find Her","Are We In Love","La La Means I Love You" before finally delivering a wonderful version of "Together".(Sadly, they never perform their 1983 hit "Sonya").

"so love you better wake up
yeah,before we break up
and you lose me,little me...
the one who really loves you"

lol Mary Wells is queen around here

Mary Wells is sooo underrated sad

Seriously, she's basically forgotten, overshadowed by Diana Ross. Motown does NOT treat her catalogue the way it should.

Agreed.I love that woman's music!! Her version of Smokey's "What Love Has Joined Together" is simply heavenly.

She sounds so gorgeous on that. Her version of "When I'm Gone" is one of the sexiest Motown tracks ever but it remained unreleased until The Ultimate Collection. I also think "Whisper You Love Me Boy" is an underappreciated classic.

Actually looks like a weak show IMO. One Way would be cool but with no Kevin McCord they aren't really One Way. Mary Jane Girls I could take or leave. The rest are just the type of acts you would see at a county fair. Best Old School Show I saw was 2 years ago here in Sactown. The Time, Brothers Johnson and The Gap Band. Now that's an old school show!

This show plays your area the very next day (Arco Arena on February 7,if I'm not mistaken).I'm impressed with the line-up,but I have gone to better Super Oldies Shows than this.Last year, the line-up was much better...

GQ
Deniece Williams
Evelyn King
Tierra
The Moments

and several other top-notch acts.In years past,I've seen other great acts like Rose Royce,The Stylistics,The Dramatics, etc at these shows. But it's always a treat to see the Mary Jane Girls, and the Bloodstone guys are AMAZING.

UGH I mixed up the Barbara's. Please forgive me? I have a horrible track record when it comes to radio contests, so I don't bother. I'd love to go. Just need an old schooler fan to go with. Too bad there isn't a show in Oakland. Much closer and easier commute by BART.
