Cocteau Twins appreciation thread

If y'all don't know. PLEASE ask somebody. These cats are the bomb
It's a little known fact but Prince even wanted to work with them. They split in the late 90's leaving nearly two decades of gorgeous music behind.

Show ya love..

What I've heard is limited, but I like it a lot. I want to get into them more.

Anxiety

Blue Bell Knoll = excellent
Heaven or Las Vegas = wonderful

Haven't been able to get way too much into their stuff before or after those two albums, but everything is certainly very unique. I can hear the Cocteau Twins influence on the Ingrid Chavez album, definitely...

Their 88-90 period is superb, as Anxiety has just said.

Liz Fraser vocals are out of this world woot!

Still have to get their first albums though.

Yeah they did "work" the drum machine in their earlier pieces. It was cool at the time though as Industrial was all the rage. It gave 'em that edge.

Um.. the Billboard awards are on in the background. Why is Sting doing Oakenfold-esque techno? barf

WORD! That is the one. I was all set to see that show in Miami. I even somehow managed a free ticket by assisting Capitol in club promotions. I guess being the resident DJ helped. The bitches cancelled. Visa or something. Anyone here saw that tour OR any live show? Please share...

Vina, Tron get the albums Anxiety listed & also the Treasure album, you won't be disappointed,I hope.

In fact alot of the groups on the 4AD label during the 80s were great:

Bauhaus
Birthday Party
Dead Can Dance
Throwing Muses
Pixies
Ultra Vivid Scene
Pale Saints
Modern English(I Melt With You)
Colourboxx

so many others I can't remember right now.

Co-sign. I'm not sure if you're a Lord of the Rings fan but her voice accompanies every scene with Cate Blanchett. The musical piece is spine-chilling as well but I haven't looked into the soundtrack.

Cool. I'll have to listen closer next time I watch. I have both of the extended DVDs and I'll be viewing them back to back before I check out Return of The King. LOTR is the most amazing moviegoing experience I've had since Star Wars or Raiders.. I'm already sad that the trilogy is ending.

I must be off now though. We'll have to pick up our Liz Frasier chat later

From what I recall reading, they very seldomly use real words in their lyrics. Its been an ongoing theme/joke in their songs. Although I heard a few english words in Heaven Or Las Vegas.

Their 80's output had to have an effect on Prince, his vocals on tracks like God sound very much like Cocteau Twins.

Can't remember if I read this or if it was told to me by my fanatical friend who read it BUT it was read somewhere that Liz uses real words. She just plays around with diction. There are songbooks you can buy with full lyrics.
