They Just don't make love songs like they use too

I think the 60's were the best decade for love songs, especially in R&B music. I mean those songs wasn't just about sex. It was about love and making love, not war (what are we fighting for)? In other words they were special. They could really put you in the spirit of passion, even if you didn't have that special somebody, somebody. I mean you had folks like the temptations, Smokey Robison, Marvin Gaye, Al. Green, Teddy Pendegrass, The Stylistics, Sam Cooke, the delfonics, the list can go on. When they song about love, you know exactly what they were talking about, because it touched like this place inside your soul. I guess that's why they call it soul music.

Nowadays, they don't know how 2 make love songs like they use to. Even though 90% of what they play on the radio today are about love, it's just not the same. Half the time, the lyrics don't even make any sense. I don't know if any of y'all heard that song I can read your mind by Avant, but I was listening to this R,kelly wannabe, shaking my head in the shame, thinking this guy needs to go back 2 old school 2 learn how ta write a real love song, seriously.

Back then they knew what love was all about. These days young bucks out here don't have the slightest idea. Listen to me, I'm beginning to sound like my grandmother now, but it's the truth lol

is y'all feelin' me though ?

Lisa,I agree with you! Just the other day,I heard Smokey Robinson and The Miracles' "Ooh Baby Baby" on the radio, and I thought "Damn, this song is so beautiful...why can't TODAY'S artists come up with something this timeless?".When you think of the sorry state of today's R&B,it just makes you sad, doesn't it? Songs in the 60s (and 70s) are so dramatic,well-written,lushly orchestrated, with REAL singers singing real songs with real melodies. Most of today's R&B producers don't know a damn thing about song structure and chord changes.

People always accuse me of "living in the past" when it comes to music, but I wouldn't have it any other way smile

Ain't it the truth! sad
You Remind Me Of Something--R. Kelly

You remind me of something
I just can't think what it is

Chorus:
You remind me of my jeep; I wanna ride it
Something like my sounds, I wanna pump it
Girl you look just like my cars; I wanna wax it
And something like my bank account, I wanna spend it

It's something about your love that's got me going crazy
Baby you know I want you real bad
And girl I really like your freaky style
How can I be down with you?
So get a little closer to my ride
I wanna get to know you lady
And hip me up on how to get inside you - listen pretty baby
I wanna roll it, roll it, roll it is all I wanna do for you baby
Girl it's something kind of sexy goin' on about you

Chorus

Now I would like to take you for a ride
Girl you know we'll have so much fun
And give you everything your body needs
Satisfaction guaranteed
So pull up to my bumper and
let the system sound
Girl, I bet cha' I can drive you crazy
And let me be the one to drop you off -
babe listen to me
I wanna roll it, roll it, roll it is all
I wanna do for you baby
Girl it's something kind of sexy
goin' on about you

Chorus

The missing ingredient is romance.

It's all sex, today, which is alright, but when it's substituted entirely for romance, it's rather bland.

Prince's songs were sexual, but they were also always romantic. As were the timeless Motown grooves.

What about that new Alicia Keys song? I heard she added the phone call part because it reminded her of those kind of breaks in old school love songs.
