Ya might not like how she sounds, but I dare you to try to approximate her vocals. The thing I admire most about Bjork is that her voice is so distinct and unusual, but her phrasing and "melisma" (if you can call what she does "melisma") connects directly to what it is she's singing about - in other words, she doesn't whoop and holler just for the sake of letting folks know she can whoop and holler - there's an actual context for it.

I guess Ashanti left a bad taste in Irv Gotti's mouth, too, since she seems likely to be dropped from Muder Inc. sometime soon. There has apparently been a lot of tension between the two, and her latest Christmas album just reeks of contractual obligation (no other reason for it), so I hope the reports are right.

I don't know, J-Lo's voice in "All I Have" makes me cringe, but did anyone see Ashanti sing at that "Christmas in Washington" special? Absolutely terrible! Lumidee is horrid, and I think that "Uh oh" song is the worst of the year, but I haven't heard anything else by her. We don't even know what Britney sounds like, and I definitely think it's a little close to Milli Vanilli going on, lol.

That's absolutely right. There's a differnce between "quirky" and "poor."

Bjork's singing is really something fantastic!

Lumidee is the WORST female vocalist of all time! She must be somebody's cousin's baby's momma or something to have gotten that recording deal.

It's not like she's got Janet's abs, or J-Lo's booty or Britney's blondness, and her song was still a hit. I was just wondering who she had to sleep with? (Or might she need all these attributes to have slept with someone?)

Anyway, I liked that Oh-oh song. Was the rest of the album really THAT bad???

I'm not a big fan of J-Lo's singing voice. It's too thin and she sounds like she struggles to carry high notes.

I have to admit Ashanti is starting to grow on me. However, everytime I hear "Rain on Me" on the radio, I can't help but think Mary J. Blige could have done this song ten times better. To me, "Rain on Me" sounds like a "My Life" album outtake with Ashanti's vocals instead of Mary J's.

I'll nominate Pink for this award. I saw her sing live on the MTV Europe awards - at least I think that's what it was - and she was dreadful. She couldn't hold a note.

Remember when Never Leave You (Uh Oh!) came out, and she claimed that she sounded off-key because the backing track was NOT the one she recorded the song to?

Yeah, THEN the album came out and we all knew she was lying...

Does anybody have that album? I notice there is a lot of raging on this poor little misely one hit wonder. What's the deal.

Guess I need my ears cleaned out then, since I find voice relaxing. Then again some people think Bjork sounds like a howler monkey in heat, so there's no accounting for taste wink

I know I'm going to get harshed on for this, but I think Madonna has one of the weakest voices in the industry. I'm not going to say she's untalented and that she doesn't deserve what she has - I think she's proven herself as a performer - but her live performances on TV have been getting more and more awful over the past few years.

I would comment on Britney, but I've never heard her sing live.

Agreed, but at one point is was getting alot better and stronger but now she really cannot sing...check out the American Life album!

I think that was intentional. She was trying to sound vulnerable and expose herself to us emotionally, so that sort of singing was appropriate for the record. It's the same thing with Dylan (NOT comparing him to Madonna here) in that he's not perfect, but people accept it anyway.

i've never really been a fan of Madonna performing on TV. for guest spots, i mean. she can pull it off when it's an actual concert, when she's been using her voice regularly in rehearsals and onstage a lot, but in one-off appearances singing on talk shows and awards shows and that sort of thing, it always makes me cringe.

Any rapper who arrogantly lends his own tone-frantic, out-of-key singing voice to a chorus to "sing" his own hook needs to have his trachea cut.
