fake artists fooling the public With so many ppl calling major sellers on the charts today phonies, copycats, wannabes, shyte, pathetic, simpletons, idiots, talentless bimbos, etc...it got me thinking.
Has any (talented or not) artist purposefully tried to make shyte music for the sole reason of seeing whether it would hit with the public (Top 10 in their country or others)...then succeeded...then turned around and called the public fools for falling for their phony crap? Then laughed, hard? The key here is themselves KNOWING they are making crap for the masses, and going out of their element to do so, then succeeding, then publically accusing the public of bad taste, thereby making all of their complaints about music, talent level, and artists today perfectly valid, (at least from their perspective). I'm intrigued to know.

Well, I THOUGHT Jewel was laughing at us with the Intuition video and the 0304 album, but now that the second video's been released and she's again taking off the clothes, the image change is probably authentic.

I remember hearing about Was Not Was deliberately putting out 'Walk The Dinosaur' to see how big it would be.
Then there was the KLF and the book they wrote about how to get a #1. They burned £1m in cash from what they made while being filmed a few years later: ![]()

I dunno what planet I was on when they pulled all these stunts, but I never heard about any of them. I was probably avoiding the media as usual. I must say I'm far more intrigued about what they did behind the scenes than in their music (which was bleh to me). Some of the stunts they pulled are right down my alley. They come pretty close to the "fake band concept, then tell the fans and industry how dumb they are". Pretty close indeed. Refreshing to see some of the stuff they did critical of the industry (and their image in it).

KLF & Tammy Wynette getting to #1 with "Justified & Ancient" was MOST bizarre.

It's posts like this that make me glad I'm leaving this place. Whether or not someone is considered a good artist is subjective. Why don't you try posting who you consider to be great artists and let someone take a dump on that.JUST LOOK AT THE NAMES LISTED ON MANY POST AS FAVORITE ARTIST---BRITANY SPEARS??? ETC.

To answer the question, though, I feel like Kelis just made Milkshake just to see what kind of reaction it would get. My opinion is that her earlier material is stronger.

Well said stymie! And if people insist on dissing an artist, at least be intelligent to spell their name right.
