The lyric is..."Shame on you!...If you can't dance too"

The most shockingly disappointing disco album is...

***'A Taste Of Honey' (1978)---the first single "Boogie Oogie Oogie" is one of the most infectious disco jams ever, bouncy and catchy as hell.So why is the rest of the album such a SNOOZE?? :

disbelief

Actually, I liked a number of songs off this album: "Disco Dancin'", "Distant", "This Love Of Ours"...overall, I thought it was a solid effort.

Really? I was disappointed with the album.I guess I was expecting another "Boogie Oogie Oogie".I was shocked to hear that most songs are more subdued, and not as "disco-y" as the first single.I have another album by A Taste Of Honey,'Twice As Sweet'(1980) and it is equally disappointing.

Most underrated Disco song...

"Out Of My Hands" by Dionne Warwick (1979)

"baby can't you see
you were really meant for me
darlin,you and me
could be livin' in ecstasy"

lol

and that disco-fied remake of "the letter"...lol

If they had released "Out Of My Hands" as a single in 1979,Dionne would have given Donna Summer and the other disco divas a run for their money lol

Because the vast majority of Disco wasn't about albums per se, just a couple of good, (usually) long playing dance songs and filler, mainly.

To a certain extent,I agree with you. There are MANY disco albums that are comprised of one great single and a bunch of filler. That's why the late-70s albums by Donna Summer really stand out.Her albums from this period are consistent and focused, with very little filler.

I would like to nominate two others:

Heatwave - Central Heating (1978)
Chic - Risque (1979)

starChic - Risque (1979) star
My personal 70s disco favorite. Released during the last days of disco. Includes the masterpiece "Good Times" (sampled in the first hit rap record and countless other recordings), "Soup For One," (revamped by Modjo in the 2000 club hit "Lady") and "Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)."

Chic - C'est Chic (1978)
Includes the disco jam "I Want Your Love" and the 70s warhorse "Le Freak." Total 70s decadence. Break out the champagne and cocaine for this record :-X

First Choice - Greatest Hits
The band that started it all. Their material helped make disco what it is to this day and has been constantly sampled for decades. The lyrics, phrases and grooves on this record are the basis for countless house hits in the 80s and 90s. Includes "Player" and "Let No Man Put Asunder."

Honorable mention:
Diana Ross - Diana (1980)
Posphumous disco recording. Not from the seventies, but had to be included. Disco's last gasp. Includes the legendary classics Love Hangover, Upside Down, and I'm Coming Out. Nile Rodgers killed with this set.

Check all these records out.

Excellent choice, but the song "Love Hangover" is not on this album. That song is from her 1976 self-titled album. However, the "Deluxe Edition" of 'Diana' does contain a rare, extended version of "Love Hangover" on the second disc of bonus tracks.

It also contains their best ballad ever, the dramtatic "At Last I Am Free".Is this song a tearjerker or what?? I have no idea what the lyrics mean..lol...but it's a powerful, emotional song with a really sad, depressing feel to it.I'm surprised that someone hasn't come along and covered it.

headbang "The Groove Line" is one of the most amazing jams of all time! Other strong tracks include "Put The Word Out", the funky "Send Out For Sunshine" and the title track. There are also two outstanding ballads,"Happiness Togetherness" and the dreamy, haunting "Star Of A Story".

We're gonna have to do the inevitable Heatwave thread lol
