I heard rumours of a new Kate Bush album.

It could've been a dream, tho'. neutral

Peter Gabriel said in an interview recently "I heard Kate's new album is coming out SOON". Nothing official yet, but hopefully sometime in 2004... (hope, hope, hope)

Well, I know she's finished recording it but knowing her it'll take another ten years to mix.

Not bad, just different.

I feel the music industry in is a sad state of affairs. There's tons and tons of great underground artists out there that will never get serious recognition because they're not bubblegum bullshit.

When I listened to the alternative rock stations in the 90's, I'd hear lots of great music by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Faith No More, etc. Now it's all Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Jet, The Strokes, The Darkness, and all that other bullshit.

Hip hop is in the same place as well. When songs like "Milkshake" and "Right Thurr" become hits, you know there's a problem.

It's all crap.

So basically you're bitching because your favoured style of music (grunge rock) isn't in style right now? How do you think us pop/r&b fans felt when Nirvana/Alice In Chains were all over the radio ca. 1992-1995?

Wait about 5 years and you'll get what you want again. The music industry (and music tastes) run in cycles, as each successive generation of teens rebels against what came before.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I was making an example of what the alternative music scene used to be. There's a lot of stuff out there that I like, but it'll never get mainstream recognition.

All over the radio? You're saying Alice In Chains was being played on the R&B stations? Wow, that's amazing.

Wait about 5 years and you'll get what you want again. The music industry (and music tastes) run in cycles, as each successive generation of teens rebels against what came before.

The change should have started happening, but it's only getting worse.

Actually, Alice In Chains and Nirvana were all over general (mainstream) radio between '92-'95. Of course they weren't on specialty R&B stations rolleyes

I know what you mean, though. One more album from Britney Spears might convince me to forget modern music altogether.

But then how do you think jazz fans feel - none of their stuff is EVER recognized. Bottom line is as long as you like it, it doesn't matter that everyone else doesn't. The mainstream is rarely the definition of good taste, so why worry that your stuff isn't being heard? wink

Even mainstream music was a lot better a few years ago. It was a lot easier to listen to the radio or watch MTV back then. Now it's so painful.

Next Britney video that comes on, hit "mute". It helps a lot. Better than novocaine, I find. Then you get her best assets without the background noise.

I don't know about mainstream radio being better a few years ago. That just depends on what you like, I guess. I can't stand Puff Diddly, so ca. 1997 I didn't turn on the radio at all. You're not forced to listen to it, after all. And MTV has sucked since the late '80s. Turn it off and support what you like.

Doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it.
