Cry Baby-Janis Joplin I don't know much about Janis Joplin but I respect her struggle in her life as a troubled soul. My mother is a true fan but I neva got intersted in her till some classmate made an essay about her(life & career) I got really intersted.
I've seen a small segment about her from VH-1 called "Women In Rock" and they had Chaka, Tina, Dionne, Joni Mitchell talking about Janis in high regard. Chaka made a tribute of her own with Rufus by singing "Half Moon" back in 1974. But the thang that got my serious attention is watching Tina Turner singing "Cry Baby" in some tribute show and at the end she shouted crying "Janis, if u hear me this for you baby". I immidiatly went through my mother's collection and checked that song. Boy, was that moving! I was this close from breaking down when the song ended,,,so many pain and hurt in that song enough to make you LIVE it. I don't know what she been through but I could tell this wasn't just a song, it was a cry-4-help call. Anybody here fimiliar with Janis Joplin,,,ya'll could help me about what to pick! Holla

Sadly, here in belgium , you don't find much of her albums, but there is a great double cd anthology out there wich makes for a great start. her version of "summertime" is genuine goose-bump material... love that babe! The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.

Most critics hate it but "I Got Dem Kozmic Blues Again,Mama" is great. Her "Little Girl Blue" makes you want to cry everytime.
For beginners, I would suggest Columbia/Legacy's recent "The Essential Janis Joplin". It contains all but one track (the instrumental) from "Pearl"as well as most of her hits and a few rareties. Its not all the Janis youll need but a good place to start. There is also a nice boxset "Box of Pearls" that contains her four albums with bonus trax and a bonus EP disc of rare trax. "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

Janis Joplin is one of the most amazing vocalists that ever lived period.
I have alot of records on vinyl, tape and CD... I recommend any of her albums and I really recommend you go all the way and buy BOX OF PEARLS which is all her albums remastered and an EP of rarities...plus the artwork is amazing. "Little Girl Blue" breaks my heart everytime I hear it...so does 'Summertime'...and yes "Cry Baby"... You cant go wrong with Janis! Every minute of last night is on my face today....
