Being a fan of all Blues since I was a child, I was blown away by the entire series. I bought it as soon as I could afford it.
Three main reasons: To see actual video footage of my idols (Muddy, Ray Charles, Otis Rush, Son House, Howlin Wolf, Willie Dixon) was just amazing. The education about something I knew everything about from various perspectives. The British invasion is now something I understand completely because of this. Right from the mouths of British musicians. Sister Thornetta was a church woman who played a Gibson SG (Angus Young of ACDC's guitar) and played rock and roll better than Chuck Berry. Left me with my jaw on the floor. ----- [This message was edited Thu Dec 18 7:16:22 PST 2003 by Slave2daGroove]

It felt to me like they were in awe of the music and actually showed American white people what was in their own back yard. I felt like they had a lot of respect for the artists and supported them when they toured England.

I BOUGHT this, and have yet to watch it ! I expect it to be good, tho. The use of several directors who have a love for the music should paint a bigger picture than Ken Burns Jazz does. "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

if so how was it. If you are talking about the audio CD,it's excellent, however only 2 of it's trax are previously unreleased. The 1994 Jimi Hendrix Blues disc has more rare trax so is a bit more essential ,but I dont mind having both. If you are talking about the short film concerning Hendrix that was broadcast during the run of the series,I dont think it was included as part of the DVD set. Yeah the Jimi thing wasn't with the set. I watched it but thought it was weak. A lot of interviews with people who's opinions mean little to me.

Some episodes good, some not so good.
I particularly liked the opening one, with the trip to Africa, and the one by Wim Wenders, with the spacecraft theme - I think it was the 3rd one. On the other hand, the one with the British musicians was a drag - who elevated Tom Jones into an "elder stateman"? Way too much time was spent on those other Englishmen - who essentially were small-time "middlemen" importing music and not creating any; they only have "credibility" by association with the fledgling Rolling Stones in the early 60's. *****************************************

All I know is that British one had a guy with an eye-patch and I was believing anything that he said. Fuck Tom Jones!

i discussed the pbs blues series when it first aired on tv the first couple of nights i was moved beyond tears the series illustrates how culture never dies the blues was born in africa, re-birthed in america and evolved through different music styles the pbs blues series was powerful and it was about more than music
