Vocoder?...Roger Troutman used a 'talkbox'. There r differences between both. Perhaps u should do some research b4 u criticise.

I like this song a lot. But it's somewhat of a guilty pleasure, imho. It's a tad cheesy, but in a good way. It's a fun song.

I love Roger and Zapp... brings back good memories for
me regardless how cheesy!

r.Supernova because Roger did not perform rock does not mean he wasn't talented. I saw Roger and Zapp a few times back in the day .They Rocked!!. Roger was just as talented as Prince and I think I can speak for a lot of funk fans on Prince org members when I say that the constant put down of other black artist on this site is out of fucking control.

Let me start by saying that I'm as "black" as Roger and Prince. Having said that I Wanna Be Your Man is okay but not even close to one of Roger's best songs. It isn't funky like his best cuts and is kind of boring. Like somebody else said there's way too much vocoder on the song.

Now as for the comparative talents of Prince and Roger I guess that's up to opinion. I never saw Zapp live so I can speak of Roger's musicianship, stage presence, or dancing. However, I can say that Prince's range of abilities is much greater. His songs are more layered and in some cases melodic. There's a depth to Prince's music that Zapp's lacked. The voice is an often overlooked instrument and Prince uses his with the best of them-- vocoders pale in comparison. Thus, to compare Roger to Prince outside of a funk context is ridiculous. If the argument was who's funkier than you'd have a case, but a more talented musician? Wake up.

I love the talkbox/vocoder on that song. For me, that's pretty much all I can think of with that song but it makes it classic.
