New Cyndi Lauper album For those of you who can remember back when Cyndi Lauper was a much bigger star than Madonna...she is putting out a new album of old standards on 11/18/03, titled "At Last". The "easy listening" radio here has been playing one of the tracks; "Until You Come Back To Me", and been advertising the new CD alot.
BTW: the title track sounds awesome!!! Check out the details for yourself; http://www.amazon.com/exe...ct-details Last summer she put out a 4-track "EP" disc called "SHINE" as sort of a preview for her "upcoming" album (of new material), which then never materialized. Anyone have a clue as to why? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I'm interested in this one. Have you heard the whole album. I heard samples and wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. I'm really thinking about it since there are so many releases this and next week.

Have always liked her. She's another one of those artists who don't appear on the charts anymore but deserve much respect.

Seems like there's a whole subdued adult-indie post-pop genre forming with artists like Cyndi, Pat Benatar, and...dare I say it...Prince. They've gone beyond their heyday hype and while they don't have the same kind of mass media sheen, they're able to use their relative obscurity to take their music other places without industry weasels nagging them about sellability. And meanwhile, the royalties from the past keep rollin' in...Right On, I say.

I haven't heard the whole album...just the few snippets afforded on CDNOW.com. Seems good though. Here's the track list; At Last Walk On By Stay La Vie En Rose Unchained Melody If You Go Away Until You Come Back to Me (with Stevie Wonder) My Baby Just Cares For Me Makin' Whoopee (with Tony Bennett) Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood You Really Got A Hold On Me Hymn To Love Sunny Side Of The Street By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

The new Cyndi album is $11.99 in most stores so I guess Sony is giving it quite a push.

I saw Cyndi in concert twice last year, opening for Cher, and she puts on a wonderful show. She even played a few new songs, including a rocker called "Madonna Whore".I wonder where those songs are gonna wind up,now that the 'Shine' project has apparently been delayed?
The new CD looks interesting, and it's great that she got Stevie Wonder to appear on it.If Rod Stewart can make a comeback singing old classics, then Cyndi should be able to do the same.

AT LAST is a good album. Her voice sounds fantastic and I love how mellow it is...but like many Cyndi fans...I'm still waiting for the new album of original songs that was to follow the SHINE EP which I just love.
For now I will savor her crooning to some classics! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

what an embarrassing 6 months. THAT WAS COLD. Hard to believe, but YES she was once HUGE and Madonna was but a up-and-coming starlett. Then came the infamous MTV performance of "Like A Virgin" and the TIME magazine cover - and WHAM! - Cyndi's yesterday's news. For whatever it's worth...I always thought that Cyndi's "True Colors" was a MUCH BETTER album than Madonna's "True Blue". Maddy just had better videos. co sign unfortunately, she relied too long on her ditzy girl routine, when she was making more impressive music. Madonna realized that evolving into a classier public persona to match a more serious tone to her music was a must.

To make matters worse...even though she is a good actress, for her first major movie, Vibes, she totally maintained and reinforced that "ditzy" personna. Truly a crying shame. But Madonna wasn't really classy until 1995. well there was a pretty radical shift in appearance and the way she carried herself publicly in 1986, at least compared to how she presented herself before then.

i'm liking the album. i was a tad disappointed at first, but it's growing on me. i like the latin vibe that Sheila adds to "Stay". And I love "Unchained Melody". Joni does a very similar snippet of it in "Chinese Cafe/Unchained Melody", and I've always wanted to hear someone else do the whole song with that vibe. Oh, and that cover photo is FUCKING awesome.

As a devotee of the great Sheila E, I am embarrassed to say that I did NOT know that Sheila was on this CD. I guess that's why they were on "Ellen" together then, eh? I haven't bought this CD yet...but I will this weekend. And YES, that cover photo is AWESOME. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I think the image issue coupled with the 3 year spread between True Colors and A Night To Remember were the nails in Cyndi's coffin. But, massive star or not, I have continued to enjoy her albums throughout her career. Her Xmas album is probably my favorite Xmas album from a "modern" artist... I heard some so-so reviews of At Last, but I think I'll have to check it out after all.

I really like Cyndi, and I have all her previous albums, but I haven't bought this one since I don't really think her voice fits the material well (and yes, I have listened to downloaded mp3s of several tracks...she sounds ill at ease with some of the songs).
