The "lost" Michael Jackson album from 1973 produced by Stevie Wonder

In 1973/74,Stevie Wonder wrote and produced a solo album for Michael Jackson. The album was never released, even though a single was picked by Motown---a song called "Buttercup".The album continues to collect dust in the vaults.

This has got me wondering...are there any other "lost" Michael Jackson albums that have never seen the light of day? I know that the Motown artists were extremely prolific (I could start another whole thread on all the unreleased Motown albums that I know about...lol),so I'm sure there is more stuff out there that has never been released.

The J5 released about a fifth of what they recorded @ Motown. There's plenty, but i think it'll stay stuck behind red tape for awhile yet.

Soulsation? There's one disc of unreleased stuff on that. I'm @ work at the moment so i'm limited to sneaky short posts.

Later.

(I'll tell you now 'Fool For Love' is off the freakin' chain though!)

i only know of a few unreleased songs that've leaked
onto the net. and at the start of the 90's there was
talk of a release of a greatest hits album, entitled
'decade'. this album would include a few new songs and
the hits. but they had so many new songs at one point
that they decided to release a new album: 'dangerous'.

purple music does the same to my brain

this is the kind of stuff that should have been on the recent MJ remaster/rereleases. not 1 or 2 extra songs or demos and 20 minutes of interviews padding them.

Well, he supposedly records around 70 traks for each album he releases, so...
With the release of Invincible alone, there were so many confirmed and rumored duets and collaborations with other artists that alone could've filled a whole cd or two. I rmmbr in the summer 2000 (or 1999?) Sony had scheduled a press conference to announce MJ's new album called 'Color of my Soul' (well, i'm sure about the press conference, the title was mere speculation i think). I'm not sure which traks ultimately made it on Invincible, so.
And purpleone is correct: about six songs have leaked from the Dangerous sessions (they were to be released with the remasterd version of dangerous, that's prolly how they got out).
4 songs of the Thriller sessions have been available for quite some time now.
Some of the recordings with Freddy Mercury have surfaced a few years back.
I'm sure there's a lot more gathering dust somewhere.

Btw, i've never heard about the 'lost' Stevie/MJ album. Have any more info?

Ooh .. I remember when Teddy Riley was interviewed on some radio station in about 97' and expressed distaste with the HIStory album.

Teddy said that he and Michael had worked together on the album and that he had thought until the day of release that the Album was basically Teddy Riley/MJ equally written.

When it came out however none of the tracks they did together made it .. so theres at least 7 or 8 songs from those sessions that teddy thought were the Jam that didnt make it.

He actually said those songs were better as far as he was concerned !! Love to get my hands on those !

Apparently the Jackson 5 recorded over 300 songs for Motown records. Most of these were not up 2 Motown's standards so were never released.

Yeah, but Barry White was an asshole. Remember, this is the same guy who said he didn't like Stevie's voice when he first came to Motown and who also tried to shelve Marvin's "What's Going On" album.

U mean Berry Gordy...but he wasn't gonna let Marvin release 'Whats Going On' and Marvin was married 2 his sister at the time. Berry Gordy's daughter was married 2 Jermaine Jackson and this is why Jermaine stayed at Motown.

Berry Gordy was talking from the perspective of a CEO concerned about hits and sales.

As a person of this type, it's not hard to imagine him refusing to release anything he thought was not gonna sell well, preferring instead to play the safe formula.

Personally I think the Stevie/MJ stuff they supposedly worked together on would be weak. Stevie is real hit and miss for me (but when he hits, he hits good), and those 2 haven't done any cool stuff together. Just Good Friends off Bad was weak to me. No idea why they included it apart from the fact that a 'big names' collaborated.
