how about renaming themselves the suckiness? oh man, i hope these guys are just having one over on us because if they are serious, they make me sad. they are really awful!

If I wanted to listen to Jack White try to be glam metal, I'd listen to Electric Six. I really don't get what the hype is about - The Darkness make Tenacious D sound like freakin' Led Zeppelin. I might appreciate the joke if the lead singer didn't sound like a drunken math geek at karaoke night. I never thought I would respect the vocal stylings of groups like Poison, Cinderella or Skid Row, but I'd rather listen to a Warrant album than this crap. Still, I know people rave and screech about The Darkness...maybe they're really good live? Even though I "get" it (the schtick/joke/etc.), I don't get it (they suck).

As 4 'The Darkness'...I kinda like the guy's voice and would like him 2 sing some Prince song's as he has got 1 of the highest voices ever. Imagine this guy singing 'God'...

His voice is so brittle and reedy, though...it's like he should be in an REM tribute band or They Might Be Giants or something.

I saw their video recently and I was confused. It was so 80's metal. I couldn't tell if they were serious or not.

There's an article on them in the December 5th issue of "Entertainment Weekly." It begins: "British superstars The Darkness are the most hilarious (and kick-ass) metal act since Spinal Tap. Except they're not joking. Or are they?"

I'm curious, I'm gonna read it.

I'm starting to get really tired of the whole "you just don't like The Darkness because you don't GET IT."

How is it I can "get" Zappa, Residents, Spinal Tap, Firesign Theater, Bad News, Ween, Dread Zeppelin, Tenacious D and Electric Six, yet the subtle satire of The Darkness is somehow over my head?

Maybe I missed the memo that said suck is the new good.

I love the music of the single, but I hate that guy's voice. It is horrible. If they would get rid of him and take the music more seriously, they would shred.

Another joke metal band, Fozzy, is currently in the studio making an album of all original songs. If you don't know, their singer is actually WWF wrestler Chris Jericho and he can belt out the 80's style glam screams with the best of them. They have two albums out of all cover tunes and they are pretty good. I am looking forward to the original album to see how he can do on his own. I know the band is solid, they are former members of Stuck Mojo. (not expecting too many people to know who they are though.)
