Grammy nominee Nikki Giovanni said, “I’m not a fan of Eminem and it was a profound disappointment. What’s the purpose of this boy who’s making a living off of a Black art form being deliberately insulting? He had to know that this was not acceptable and what he didn’t expect is that somebody would say something to him. Eminem and the white boys who want to do rap have to grow up. You are just not allowed to be a bigot.”

So, if thats the case, should Nikki be calling for all the black rappers who slag off the whites, to apologise, and stop being hypocritical when they are using white "art" forms to sell their music, like electricity, recorded music, and TV?

Yes, Africans sold their own people but, did Africans build the slave ships that took Africans to America. Did Africans control the slave trade in the United States. Did Africans invent a system of Jim Crow laws that controlled black Americans for 100 years after slavery.

If the Africans had not assisted the slave traders.Would they have calmly returned to Europe without slaves. Think about all of this before you try to use the blame the victim routine.

"if 'nigger' represents that system of oppression why do so many black rappers use it interchangeably with their friends and foes?"

Because they are ignorant idiots who have been brainwashed by the white power struture. Not all African-Americans use the "N" word.

There is no double standard between white and blacks when it comes to racism. Emmiem will keep recording music and making movies. When a member of Public Enemy made anti-jewish remarks the band lost its recording contract.
Trust me if you are white it is perfectly okay to be a racist.

if you had any idea how that sounds...I can't stand it when people put race lables on music. music is music. If a guy, white or black, can rap, let him. A rapper HAS to be black? That's like saying a rock singer has to be white.

BTW: if what eminem feels and thinks is sooo important then why wasn't source bitching and moaning when he was talking about killing his wife and gays? rolleyes

And no laura, I can't think of any mainstream rapper that makes/made anti-white statements, but the point is that if say, nelly, would've said something negative about white girls before he made it big, and the tape got out, SOURCE magazine wouldn't be calling press comfrences, sending tapes with the magazine, and demanding an appology on BET. It's a double standard, a huge one.

I am by no means a fan or supporter of this man, but people's thoughts and ideas change over 10 years, and for Source to go to such extremes for this is just a stupid, wrong, and quite bitchy thing to do.
As I've said before, they and their motives are as tranparent as saran wrap.

I know how it sounds. It is the truth. It hurts to hear but, it is true !!! If all music was the same you would not have wack ass radio formats that separate music. Music is not just separated by the style it is separated by the color of the person performing. A black rocker has a hard time getting his music on the radio and white rapper can sell millions with his first CD. This is America and this is how the system works.

Blues, Jazz Hip-Hop and Reggae were all invented by black people. All of these styles of music have been completly taken over by the majority white population. In the case of Hip-Hop it has been ripped off and destroyed by the music industry. The same music industry that no black CEO's.

Don't use Puff-Daddy as an example since he is the CEO of vanity label.

Your right about Eminem not getting any flack for his anti-gay statements and you are right about Nelly. However, if Nelly made anti-white girl comments his carreer would be over and Eminem will get away with these cracks about black woman because the mainstream press does not give a rat's ass about the Source or what black people think. That is the real double standard.

I was going to use a thread from King Sausage, listing at least 20 rap lyrics slagging off white people, but the search facility on this site is currently down, so I urge you to check it out (once its back up), as an example.

Sure, some of the acts on it are not big sellers, but the lyrics quoted by Eminem have not sold a single copy, so "sales" are of no matter.

As far as electricity and "black" art are concerned, what exactly are you saying? You accept the fact that both are used by all races, but you think you have a bigger claim?

How about we lead by example? I'll stop buying rap, you stop using electricity?

Alternatively, we can enjoy both, and stop claiming "You ripped me off!". 99.99% of inventions are not unique, but rather an adaptation or improvement of another's great work. Whats wrong with that?

Actually, "Lethal Injection" was the album Ice Cube made after "The Predator", which sold zillions and was VERY popular with white, suburban middle class CD buyers. You can bet they all heard "Cave Bitch" too.

Oh, and, ok, I'm not really sure about how many white people bought "Death Certificate", but it was a pretty big seller, coming out roughly when Ice Cube was blowing up after "Boyz N The Hood" - which, I am sure, was seen by lots of impressionable white middle class kids who later went out and bought the CD, to hear ole Ice threatening to cut off their little white icicle jimmies if ever they dared even thinking about sticking them in black women.

Besides, you know how one hit album boosts back catalogue sales? I bet lots of little white buyers bought copies of "Death Certificate" after they got "The Predator", so whether they heard his racist comments first or second time around they still heard 'em.

Guess what? Ice Cube made ANTI-SEMITIC statements on "No Vaseline" too ("You let a Jew/Break up my crew"). That was also on "Death Certificate". Last track.

Never heard him apologising for any of it.

At his commercial peak Ice Cube made a whole bad bundle of anti-white and racist statements. The most memorable were:

"Black Korea" (Death Certificate) - Anti-Korean

"Horny Lil Devil" (Death Certificate) - About white men going after black women

"Cave Bitch" (Lethal Injection) - Anti-white women

Three tracks off two of his biggest selling albums. Oh, and at the time, Ice Cube was probably the most popular rapper on the planet because "Boyz N The Hood" had made him a household name. Didn't hurt his career one bit.

---
Ice Cube was not selling a whole lot of records to white audicences when he made those statements. Once he saw how much money he could make in the movies he stopped the racial comments real fast.

You are not going to hear any anti-white comments out Ice Cube as long as he is making movies.

So by your very own definition previously, should Ice Cube lose his record contract for expressing his view?

you mistake laura for a person who relies on logic and consistent/coherent arguments.

I made that mistake too.

"Black Korea was not about haterd of Koreans, it was about opportunists of Korean decent who build stores in all black neighborhoods, while blacks themselves can't get loans to put their own stores there. At the same time, they treat patrons as if they are all going to steal something. This really does happen. If you aren't black, don't EVEN try to speak on this.
Horny Lil Devil - about Cube's anger with white men pursuing sistas because they have "chocolate fantasies", with no real intentions of a real relationship.
"Cave Bitch" - this pretty much sums it up:
"Why everytime we get famous
You wanna play us like Andy and Amos?
The devil sent you to try and tame us
But you can't tame me, with no bitch named Amy
Lookin' for the dark meat
But ho, I ain't tryin' to go out like Barkely
Cuz everytime I turn on the TV
I see several brothers with she-devils
Smilin' cuz you out on a date
But sooner or later, the bitch'll yell rape
Soon as daddy found out you a jigaboo
He'll kill like he did Emmitt Till"

that verse was pretty much the gist of the song. Cube's lyrics have an edge, but not really RACIST. Cube is BLACK. Racism has to come from someone in a position of power. Predjuice, maybe. Racist; no.

p.s. - Go Laura!

Interesting discussion.

I wonder how this scandal will affect Eminem's standing in the hip-hop community?

I'm sure the real Zulus are in Africa laughing at this fool.

You are not lieing here! My girlfriend is from Africa. She has been here for about 3 or 4 years.. ALL her friends (guys & girls) are from different parts of Africa.. but all hang out and support each other here.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them Laugh at all this stupid "American Bull Crap" as they say.. when they hear these American Blacks complain...and use anything to do with Race or Africa.

Guys, Girls, Their Parents ,ect..

They ALL talk about this everyday! I am there sometimes and just hear them all talk about it.. and what stupid comments they heard on the bus or work or school or tv.

---
Both of you need to shut the hell up. The Zulu nation that Malik Shabazz was involved with was formed in New York around Hip-Hop artist back in the 70's It has nothing to do with the Zulu tribe in Africa.

As far as Africans laughing at African-Americans maybe those are Africans who have been brainwashed by their European rulers. I know lots of Africans who follow a Pan-African viewpoint.

Oh come on! Europeans don't "rule" ANY African countries now. Haven't for many many years, which would actually make it completely impossible for there to be any brainwashed Africans laughing at African-American parlance.

---
No Europeans don't rule African countries today but during the time they did rule those countries there was mega brainwashing going on. The same thing took place during slavery in the United States and plenty of African-Americans walk around today referring to themselves as N's
and having a "We Sick boss" mindset.

I see, so, ur, Africans suffer from "retroactive brainwashing" do they? Interesting, but impossible.

By the way, you say "Africa", as if it's a country as opposed to a continent. Which African country or countries are you referring to, and which European countries practised brainwashing techniques on them? Your facts, please.

---
Name a black rap group out right now that is selling records that is making anti-white statements.

Will keep using electricity and T.V as long as whites keep ripping off our art and style.

---
First of all I did not bring up electicity as an example. Some other nitwit put that into the conversation. The facts are Jazz, Blues, Rap and Rock n Roll were invented by black people. These styles of music have been ripped of by other ethinic groups who don't always give credit were credit is due. You can find out about numerous blues and early rock n roll stars that were ripped off by white artist. There was a time when record companies did'nt put a black artist face on the front of their own records and the record companies would give RnB hits to white performers because they wanted to sell more records.

Nine times out ten the white cover verisions were not improvments. They were terrible. Now go do a little reserch comeback and we will discuss it some more.
