I Think This Is The Only Louzy Album From Rufus & Chaka IMHO! Quincy was too busy with Michael Jackson at that moment(1979) and I don't think this was the best produced shit eva came from him. In fact, it sounds REALLY commercial to the full degree(at that time). So much disco shit, I don't hate Disco but it ain't working 4 Rufus. I even heard that Chaka didn't want to do this album untill at some point, Quincy shackled her ass by the neck to the ground and made her promise him to come to the session(of course they werer joking believe it or not lol) but it was obevious that Chaka was going with the motion when she recorded that album. Plus, she got her own solo thang going on back then. But I actualy like 3 cuts from it, "Do You Love What U Feel?", "any Love" and my FAVE from that album(and its saviour for that matter)-"What Am I Missing?" which she wrote with her brotha Mark.

I remember listening to that album (Masterjam) as a kid, but I truly don't remember any other songs aside from "Do You Love What You Feel."
RUUUFUUUSSS!!! This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Agreed. Mostly inconsequential, by-the-numbers disco.
Whenever I accidentally get “masterjammed”, I simply remember what it feels like to be “Rufusized”. Better than the first handful of buttered popcorn on an empty stomach. Masterjam edit... [This message was edited Sun Dec 14 23:50:54 PST 2003 by Brendan]

I have mixed feelings about this album too.The only real standout track is "Do You Love What You Feel",which is their best uptempo jam imo.None of the other songs come close. It's clear that Quincy put all of his energy into MJ's 'Off The Wall' album.

This album is the shit and yo ears ain't worth shit if you haven't paid mo' attention to it. Very short however! You could say its the flip-side of "Ask Rufus" which was a haunting record. I hear alot of hurt in Chaka's voice in that album(along with Ask Rufus) esp in the song "Turn" and of course "Stay". Its obevious that she was going through alot in that period of her life. My fave song from their is the Jazzy number "Disteny". BTW I heared that Mary J Blige covered "Best Of Your Heart" 4 her Love & Life which got shelved 4 the next project.

You're my boy and all but damn what a pleasure it is 4 me to punch you right in between those eyes lol! Seriously tho, Ask Rufus wasn't ment to be funk record. Thats the most prolific album they eva delievered, very intense, complix, dark and edgy. Its not a commercial move considering it was 1977, while everybody were on that saturday night fever. Rufus on the other hand did what everybody didn't do at that year. This album features Clare Fisher's best work to date, in fact bets of Rufus's work to date(IMO) not to mention the album is a product from tight musicianship. They had something to prove with that album, Chaka had to prove that she ain't just a sex sympol and Rufus had to prove that they're NOT just a backing band. Everybody delievered what they could. This album is considered to be whats Sign O' The Times between Prince fans. Don't listen to that album if you're looking 4 hit materials becoz that album doesn't provide that. It provides musicianship,,,pure and raw musicianship.

In the fall of 1995,I listened 2 "Ask Rufus" every single day.It was the only tape I had in my car and the only album that I wanted 2 hear..mesmerizing stuff!!
By the way, "Masterjam" is not the best of Rufus lp's . But the worst of them has to be 1981's "Camouflage"...UGH!!! minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

See, I knew you all would know the good cuts on Street Player.
The truth is I bought it a long time ago and only spun it a couple times. So I found the disc, blew the dust off and programmed.. Stay, Turn, Best Of Your Heart/Finale, Blue Love, Stranger To Love, and Destiny.. You guys are right!
