I can't stand that song. But last night I downloaded the rest of the album and there is some NICE shit on there. The two songs with Raphael Saadiq are hot as is the cut produced by Andre 3000. I'll be picking the album up today.

I love this chick! - I was feeling her from her first album when no one knew who da hell the 'Neptunes' were they did a excellent job producing her tracks and I love her writing style - very real in a quirky 80's generation x kinda way - very much like me . lol

I don't really know whats the big deal about this chic 2 be honest, homegirl sounds like as if somebody's pushing her ass into the recording booth(in 2 words-FORCED SINGING) her voice get on my nerves, plus she got the neptunes 100% back-up(who WRITE her songs too).

But she is fly,,,which is a diplomatic passport in this industry so lol she got it easy I guess.

I like her a lot but I really don't get what all the fuss is about with this song. It's kinda boring.

I totally didn't expect a track like this from her. It's pretty formulatic. I just think it funny she got nominated for a Grammy for this pop fluff and not for better stuff like her first album.

I'll probably get this record today. 'Milkshake' is starting to grow on me but honestly did nothing at first. I'm sure there are some great tracks on it...her first 2 albums are must haves!!!

It's really hooky!

Not just the chant but the "la la, la La la La" part.

And that synth patch, whatever it is, kills it everytime (think "Ain't That Funny" by Missy Elliott).

I would have agreed with you had I not heard this album. Her voice is actually pretty soulful on some of the tracks. Plus you have to realize the Neptunes only had a hand in 5 tracks from this album. She seems to have great chemistry with Andre 3000. Millionaire is very, shall I dare say it “Prince like”. Unless you have heard this full album you need to reserve judgment

Actualy, I did and I stand by what I said.

Soulful voice? Well lol if she DOES have a soulful voice then I betta start calling myself The Queen of the nile since its too easy to claim anything nowadays, but hey,,to each its own I guess.

However, I kinda dig that Millionaire song and the Raphael Saadiq's "Glow",,the rest wouldn't settle 4 me 2 be honest.

I was wierded out by that as well. Her first two albums are off the charts and had so much incredible material -- "Suspended," "Game Show," "Shooting Stars," and "Get Along With You" come to mind.

RE: Kelis

PROS:

-hot
-quirky
-rips off Donna Summer's look, clothing
-Tasty, as a whole, is a good record

CONS:

-"Milkshake" did not impress me...#5393 in the Neptunes catalogue of "synths, weird bells and hoots, and jerky (clunky?) beats". Combine that with numbingly stupid lyrics. Overall: zzz
-Her voice is merely serviceable. I have yet to hear her astound me or even distinguish herself with a vocal track. I agree with those who find her vocal tracks forced and bland.

VERDICT: Makes me miss Aaliyah even more.

She was good at sensual, soulful vocals. Kelis is not (or so far I've not seen evidence of it).

I don't see how Aaliyah factored into the equation. Kelis isn't here to fill Aaliyah's shoes and I never saw her in comparsion with Aaliyah. Kelis' sound and delivery are much different from Aaliyah's. Don't let "Milkshake" solely influence your overall opinion of Kelis, check out her first two records to get a better sense of her work.

i like milkshake and the song isn't to have some deep meaning...and Kelis is a pretty good...she is a smart chick. I've seen her on a number occasions

I like the cd, it's funky, quirky and a pretty solid record all around. I think she's cool, I saw her with NERD and she had some serious stage presence and she only sang 2 songs. My choice for next single is the reggaeish Dallas Austin track "Trick" pretty cool tune..

You know I thought about that after I posted it. I really shouldn't have said "soulful" It's just she had a better voice ona few tracks than i thought she did. I guess I just had the bar set pretty low going in. But it's the songs and music itself that makes the album for me.
