This is my list ~ not in any order because it's just too difficult and changes depending on my mood. Also, I get to cheat big time ~ I just got the first two this year and had never heard either of them (seriously) and they WERE released in 2003.

Aladdin Sane ~ David Bowie
Ziggy Stardust ~ David Bowie
Bjork ~ Live Box
Tori Amos ~ Tales Of A Librarian
David Sylvian ~ Blemish
David Bowie ~ Reality
Prince ~ NEWS
Annie Lennox ~ Bare
Charles Webster ~ Born on the 24th of July (just got this
in 2003 and even though it isn't in my general range of
favorite music I LOVE it)
Madonna ~ American Life

What about Low and "Heroes"?

Uh~oh ~~~ I'll have to move something off. I forgot because those were so early in the year (still can't find my Low disc)

It's official, at least here in the Netherlands: 'Elephant' by The White Stripes is chosen as 'Best Album of 2003' in OOR Magazine (Holland's critically acclaimed music-magazine).

Go Stripes!

I'm not going to get into an entire top ten, but if you've made a list and didn't include AUDIOSLAVE or Lou Reed's THE RAVEN (2 disc version), then you need to jet to a store and pick these up cuz yer definitely missing something.
If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!

I'd of included Audioslave for sure but it came out in 2002. Looking forward to their second LP...

I'm a big Lou fan. I got "The Raven" in its two disc version the day it came out. Not very good. Great shows in the UK and NYC though.

I guess I don't listen to much new music, so I'll have to limit this to the only three albums I've heard in 2003:

(in no particular order)

Reality - David Bowie - my first ever, but definitely not last, Bowie Album.

Xpectation - Prince - arguably the first CD by any artist released in 2003.

N.E.W.S. - Prince - Love this album . . . . . . .
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

There are some solid albums in those list, but they do confirm my general feeling that 2003 was a very poor year musically (at least for big name releases).

i find any poster who praises the white stripes and then calls lou reed "pretentious and boring" absolutely hilarious. they must read "rolling stone".

"elephant" is the worst album of the year. i'd rather listen to limp bizkit (and i HATE limp bizkit)- at least that way, no one expects all the songs not to sound the same. when meg white learns to play the drums at more than a beginner level, and jack white learns more than two power chords, wake me up. BOR-FUCKING-ING.
now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

The only new albums I bought this year were:
Elephant - White Stripes
Elephunk - Black Eyed Peas
and Speakerboxxx/Love Below - Outkast

Everything else was old music.

Disappointment of the year was Madonna's American Life.

I think I can only manage 5:

1. Muse - Absolution
2. The Polyphonic Spree - Beginning Stages
3. Sumday - Grandaddy
4. Faultline - Your Love is Everything
5. David Gahan - Paper Monsters

I think Imnotsayingthisjust2bnasty summed up the year for me too.

"this is the first time, ever, that i have not included a new prince disc in my favorites of the year list. so sad. i hope that changes".
