10 BEST CDS OF 2003 ok folks... 99.9% of the new releases are already out... there have been some great releases this year... what are your faves?
after much thought, here's mine in order: 1. REALITY - David Bowie 2. ISSUES & OPTIONS - Phil Roy 3. HAIL TO THE THIEF - Radiohead 4. GET BORN - Jet 5. BARE - Annie Lennox 6. i might have to spend a little time on this one...
off the top of my head, the cds that came out this year that i've listened to most often are (not including compilations and greatest hit collections), in no particular order: al green - "i can't stop" john hammond - "ready for love" outkast - "speakerboxxx/the love below" steve earle & the dukes - "just an american boy: the audio documentary" prince - "news" the white stripes - "elephant" actually... come to think of it, those are the only albums that i bought that came out this year... man... it was a bad year musically... last year, i would've struggled to whittle it down to 10... this year, i can only get halfway there...  ...

I spent a lot of time reacquainting myself with old favorites. I reached a new level of appreciation for many of the artists I've loved for years. It was kind of refreshing because for the last few years before this one, I was only listening to new things. | |

hmmm... i didn't do compilations... but if i did, i think the only thing that would make is probably is Tales of a Librarian, and it would be in the Top 5... I really dig the No Doubt collection, too. They are just great pop songwriters. | |

C'mon. You've gotta kick something off your list to make room for it. What number would Bjork be? Well, there's a wide...WIDE...gulf between the Grandaddy album and all the rest. "Sumday" is just a work of sheer beauty and genius to me, and as much as I love some of those other albums, they don't come near the Grandaddy album, at least where sheer gorgeousness is concerned (in MY opinion). I'd gladly toss Peaches off the list to make room for Bjorkie, though. I've warmed up to the Peaches album, but it's nowhere even halfway nearly as good as "Teaches of Peaches" (and I still think "Fuck the Pain Away" should be Paris Hilton's theme song, and should automatically start playing whenever she enters a room). | |

I think in total I only bought 4 albums from 2003... Prince NEWS Beatles Let It Be... Naked Kill Bill, Vol. 1 Soundtrack Hawksley Workman Lover/Fighter Yep. That's it. And it's not like Kill Bill even counts. And Beatles was recorded 34 years ago. Eliminate Prince (which I buy, essential or not), and I'm down to one CD from 2003.
