Mandrill I just picked up Fencewalk:The Anthology.I must have foolishly overlooked these guys in the past.In fact the only track Ive heard before is "Fencewalk".I love the use of Vibes throughout!Very tight group.Reminds me a little of EWF with a hint of (early)Santana."Peace and Love" almost sounds like a 70s Art-Rock style epic ,sort of "King Crimson"y.Very Groovy...
*Props to Supernova,PFunkjazz,Davideye and Manki for thier recent discussions of this group on other threads.(sorry if Ive overlooked anyone)I bought this set based on the opinions expressed here and am not dissapointed... "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

Ya see? Ya see? Mandrill is THE REAL DEAL. They're so musically deep and versatile it's astonishing they're not more well known - and the fact that they came from an era more conducive to being allowed to spread their wings artistically and commercially, you would think they would be more popular. No matter. But don't feel bad; it's only been within the past 4 years that I discovered this group too. I don't ever remember hearing a note by them as a kid. Liguid gold, Mandrill is. But I gotta admit; I don't like "Peace and Love"...some parts of it remind me of Meatloaf's melodrama. When I was young my aunt had this album with this colorful primate on the cover. Because of that cover I new what a mandrill was, but that's all I ever got out of the album. I really don't remember the group's music. Maybe, if I heard a song or two, something would come back to me.

I've had their anthology for so long and played it so much, that now I'm looking to get into their original albums. I wanna hear the other tracks that the anthology doesn't cover. That Vibraphone is killing me! Awesome! "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

CDUniverse has four of their albums listed, however some are backordered or no longer available. No info as to whether or not they are remasters. They also have a Boxset available which ,rather than being an anthology, appears to contain four albums.I may just have to order that one.
