Any single by Chic (Bernard was a bass behemoth).

Anything Jaco Pastorius played on (it would only be unrecognizeable by pop fans).

Almost anything James Jamerson played on.

“So What”/Miles Davis (Paul Chambers)

“Cut The Cake”, “Pick Up The Pieces”/Average White Band (Hamish Stuart)
“What Is Hip”/Tower of Power (Francis Rocco Prestia)
“Got To Give It Up”/Marvin Gaye (?)
“I Got My Mind Made Up”/Instant Funk (Raymond Earl)
“Ain’t Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)”, “I Gotcha”/Joe Tex (?)

“Take Me To The River”, “Once In A Lifetime”/Talking Heads (Tina Weymouth)
“Give It Away”/Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea)
“My Generation”/The Who (John Entwhistle)
“Dazed and Confused”, “Whole Lotta Love”/Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones)
“Sympathy For The Devil”/The Rolling Stones (Keith Richards - I don’t think Bill
Wyman played bass on this one, someone correct me if I’m wrong).

“Sexy Dancer”/Prince (admittedly, not recognized by anybody but Prince fans since it
wasn’t a single).
“Under Pressure”/Queen & David Bowie (John Deacon)
“Another One Bites The Dust”/Queen (John Deacon)

“Rise”/Herb Alpert (Jerry Knight)
“Rock Steady”/Aretha Franklin (Chuck Rainey)
“Tax Man”, “Come Together”/The Beatles (Sir Paul)
“Silly Love Songs”/Paul McCartney
“Lady Marmalade”/Labelle (?)
“Stir It Up”/Bob Marley (Aston Barrett)

“Stomp”, “I’ll Be Good To You”, /The Brothers Johnson (Louis Johnson)
“Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”/Sly & The Family Stone (Larry Graham)

"Slide"/Slave (Mark Adams)

I'd add "If You Want Me To Stay" to that list.

You're gonna tell me this thread got this far without mention of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love"?! Probably the most quoted bassline of all time?

did anyone say anything by Sade? Her bassplayer is great and his basslines really stand out.

"Paradise" for example.
