i'd say justin timberlake is the most popular performer in popular music, hence he's todays king of pop. whether you like it or not, it's the truth.

Doesn't change the fact that his music is crap.

I actually don't agree at all with your assessment. Liz Taylor came up with this bullshit title for one, and that was after many years of Jacko selling like, a gazillion records. Justin's had one friggin' hit album as a solo artist. I think its a bit premature to crown him as king of anything (other than king of really bad music).

okay, for the sake of discussion, here i go:

music is crap? like i said, doesn't change the fact that he's mighty popular.

liz came up with the title? bullshit. liz is a friend of mike. liz gives mike free publicity. mike saw the opportunity and got liz to say 'king of pop'. mike only had to feed the title to the media (through mtv and bet: " call me 'king of pop' and you'll have the premier of the 'black or white' video) and fans (print it on t-shirts, caps, flags, etc.) after that.

bullshit title? in mike's case: not really. mike was on top of the world around the time the title got mentioned. the title could have been well deserved, but the self-proclamation made it too hard to swallow.

crowning of justin premature? i agree. he has given us too little to crown him 'king of pop', but he is the most popular entertainer at the moment. no doubt. eminem might win with sales, but come on.. is eminem as straight up pop as justin? i'd say not. they're both as commercial as hell, but the title fits justin much better imo.

but..

in the end..

who really gives a shit?

secondly

Off the Wall was good, but shit, come on, there were four good songs on there. Can you even NAME five songs off of that record? Thriller was fantastic. BAD? Please. Again, 4 good songs. So, to say that JT better come up with albums as good as BAD ain't really asking for much...

And I dont think MJ wrote any of those tunes! And... and, lastly, there's NO WAY JT said he just came up with beatboxing. He's totally pandering to the black market, INCLUDING the beatboxing and the MJ tribute in his singing and dancing. He would probably be the first to tell you this.

Come to think of it, has anyone even READ the frickin article?

lol, you have got to be shitting me! off the wall only had FOUR good songs?! off the wall is a bonafide classic with a wealth of memorable, brilliant material. who cares if MJ didnt write those songs - do you think JT wrote all of his?

justin wouldnt be ANYTHING as a solo artist without the work of timbaland and the neptunes - anyone could have sung those songs and had hits with them. and does anyone really think JT would have goten anywhere without the mega-PR blitz behind him?

Practically EVERY song on 'Off the Wall' is great. If only one track could be considered filler,it would have to be the last song "Burn This Disco Out" and even THAT song isn't half bad!

Every song on 'Thriller' is great (as Otan pointed out).

Admittedly,'Bad' is kinda spotty. There are some good tunes, but I'd agree with Otan, only about four of them are really, really great.

But Otan,MJ actually DID write most of his biggest hits ("Billie Jean","Beat It","Wanna Be Startin Something","The Girl Is Mine","Don't Stop Til You Get Enough",and all but two songs on 'Bad').

'bad' is a good album. maybe not as cohesive as
'off the wall' and 'thriller' and it might be mike's most
dated album, but it's still, without a doubt, a classic.
