MARIAH wow

One of MY favorite PICS of her, this is from the GLITTER era, probably her strongest Album to date and best LOOKING era. Coming 2004 is her DVD for the CHARMBRACELET tour with many Extras.

back in the day, yes, that was why.
Now it's because she doesn't make albums as good as back then and dresses like a $2 whore
She can SANG, no doubt about that, but listening to her last album you wouldn't be able to tell

actually, i really liked her back when she did sing. and when she looked/acted respectable in public.

fortunately, she stopped using her voice and started running around like a ho at the same time, so it was easy to loose interest all at once.

1997, if you're just dying to know.

She was sexy in 1997. Butterfly was a great album, maybe her best and most underappreciated. 1999 was the beginning of the end, though, with the whole "my hotpants couldn't get any smaller, could they?" cover of Rainbow, plus the shitty music enclosed within the packaging.

Madonna always had a better voice than most people gave her credit for. She really started to use it during the Erotica era. But that was the whole point about Madonna...she really was that crazy, independent and promiscuous. If there's one constant in Madonna's career it's that she just didn't give a fuck what anyone thought, and did things her way. When Mariah , sluttiness seems incredibly fake, oddly enough, so it's hard to accept. Plus she built her whole career around being a cutesy, classy lady with a stellar voice, similar to Whitney; Madonna built hers around pushing the envelope.

I don't see Mariah's sluttiness as fake; I see her initial goody goody image as very calculated to sell instead. Her sluttiness is probably closer to who she is away from the stage. Also, as the years go on, you need a new image when you find the old formula is not doing you any favours, sales-wise. This is one probably truer to who she is.

After being free from Mottola, she probably wanted to break out and express her promiscuity and freedom a bit more. I just find her music so incredibly lacking. She's doing what everyone else is doing. On top of that, she sounds like a bird when singing her chirpy verses.

Mariah is a great singer.I love her voice. And she's a beautiful woman too.But the problem is,she just doesn't make good music anymore. She's doing the type of lame songs that would be more suitable for lesser talents like J-Lo ("Loverboy"? "Heartbreaker"? Please!).Her recent albums consist of numerous samples, predictable lyrics, and the obligatory rapper making a cameo. That's what happens when you work with the same trendy R&B producers that everybody else works with...you get crappy songs that sound formulaic, commercial and un-distinctive.I miss the days when she used to do songs like "Can't Let Go"...truly soulful songs without all the gimmicks!

I often think that people have a BIG misunderstanding of modern day R&B. But I'm not just going to defend it's crown...all I'm saying is that all that was mentioned above, ‘the sampling’, ‘getting commercial’ and ‘the indistinctive beats’ contributes and resonates within a distinct culture that this music means everything to. Sampling is a part of paying homage and respect to music of the past, and although sometimes it perverts it, it’s a trend that started and because people LOVE it so much, it just continues. But all in all, it’s music that a large group of people identify with, that people outside of that culture sometimes have trouble understanding. If people have a problem with it, then start telling the little cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, to stop buying the music because if it's up there, it’s there for a reason. It’s doing something good that people will criticize, which says that it just must be that good because it’s not for nothing. The commercialization of it is what's probably messing it up because once big companies find something they can market, they exhaust it to the max and it looks like that’s what’s happening now, no matter what damage they think they’re doing, they only see the good. I mean, I live in the city and hip-hop and R&B is the music that I mostly identify with and relate to more than any other and there's even more to it than that. I mean, to stay on topic, I admire Mariah's music so much, songs like 'Rainbow' her remake of 'Sweetheart' "I'd still say yes', the gems, ‘Vison of Love’, and ‘Can’t let go’, among her other songs are some good songs, and she still shines the most among other artists. I agree that she does need to use her voice a little more, instead of baring everything else especially when she doesn't have to, but of all the CD’s she’s made, I have not felt let down at any point…
