Quincy Jones asks Dre and Snoop to appear on his new CD Rapper/actor Snoop Dogg reports that he'll be back in the studio with longtime protege and collaborator Dr. Dre this week as he lays down vocals for legendary producer Quincy Jones' upcoming CD,which will be Jones' first album since 1995.
"I just got the call from Dre today.With me,Dre and Quincy,you know it's going to be off-the-chain" declares Snoop---not to mention that working with Jones will add a new element of class to Snoop's raunch-riddled rep. | |

 this is bad news.I love Quincy Jones,but I'm NOT looking forward to another album filled with EVERY hot rapper and R&B act.His last album 'Q's Jook Joint' featured too many guest stars and rappers and it was a bloated,over-produced mess.He needs to get back to basics and work with only one or two different singers,the way he did on 1981's 'The Dude' (his best album).If I wanna hear Snoop,I'll buy his own CD! | |

hmmm. I still haven't listened to any of Q's albums in the full, so I have no reference point. Only isolated tracks here and there - and I wasn't overly impressed.
This news doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Either Q wants to bring everyone together as a family with music, or he wants to cash in. Or maybe a bit of both, I dunno. I'm gonna have to listen to more of his work. | |

This isn't any different when he worked with Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee and I can't think of who else on the title track to his "Back on the Block" album and that's a good track and album | |

The occasional guest artist is fine,but Quincy really overdoes it sometimes.His last two albums 'Back On The Block' and 'Q's Jook Joint' were filled with too many rappers and guest artists.It was hard to determine who's who! On his 1981 album 'The Dude',he used Patti Austin and James Ingram to sing the songs and it worked out perfectly.At the time,they weren't really big stars yet so hearing them was new,fresh and exciting.I'd rather have an album like that...a well-produced,uncluttered album without a zillion guest stars. | |
