I just caught Meli'sa in her new Showtime At The Apollo concert, homegirl looked and sounded good after all these years!!! I was surprised with the reaction she got when she came on stage, and folks were singing 'Fools Paradise' with her(then again, it was one of those vintage NEW YORKER hits so there u go) This was my first time hearing Meli'sa sing this song live, so many great memories came back and that crowd got to hear a real singer that night. Monique was hosting the show.

She turned it down, but when Melisa found out that it was originally for Chaka, she proceeded to record her vocal exactly how she thought Chaka might do it...

I know that she wrote this song as a tribute to Chaka(whom she used to work 4 as a back-up vocalist in the early 80's) but I neva knew that she offered it to Chaka,,,thats intersting.

Its mo' intersting that Chaka herself recorded a song called Fools Paradise for her 75's "Chaka Khan Ft Rufus" album.

And I can clearly hear Chaka's influence in that sista's voice even if she tried to hide it,,,but her voice is mo' bluesy and gospel-ish.
