J.C. Chasez's new stuff

After hearing some of this kid's solo stuff, I might actually have to break down and buy his CD when it drops... if only to see what he does with his newfound freedom.

I thought his first solo single, Blowin' Me Up, was pretty ambitious -- Prince-like vocal harmonies, a marching band bridge with a wild tempo change, and nasty lyrics. His remake of All Day I Dream About Sex is lame, but again pretty daring content-wise considering his bubblegum background.

NOW he drops his newest cut: Some Girls (Dance With Women). As with Blowin' Me Up, I was a little annoyed at first by the conspicuous "purple tint" of the song -- very quirky stacatto vocals, dabblings in falsetto, even ambiguous references to alternative sexuality. But after I could identify that it was J.C., I was actually impressed... once again.

Also there's word that his CD might be packaged with a parental advisory sticker because his lyrics are apparently that risque. That takes balls considering his roots.

J.C. is definitely as much a student of Prince as Justin Timberlake is of Michael Jackson, and I hope he's careful not to overdo the imitation thing. (Justin's enduring the consequences of that now.) But if he does play his cards right, he might actually make a name for himself with a signature sound that, even if obviously influenced by Prince, is still pretty well executed and unique to him.

I have to give him props.

Heard it on the radio for the first time tonight. It was really odd, but it was one of those things where I was probably annoyed because I knew I liked it and didn't want to admit it at first. lol

Apparently there's a video for it dropping soon with Ol' Dirty Bastard from Wu Tang Clan.

I just hope to GOD they work on this boy's style, though. He's definitely the cutest member of NSYNC, but lately he's looking like a total Hillbilly.

I think it'd be awesome if they go for a look totally new and unexpected with him -- maybe a masculine flirtation of the classic 1930s and 40s Hollywood actress look: glossy B&W photos, rich clothes, well-kept hair, maybe even slightly (just slightly) visible makeup. But just rugged enough to suggest that while he's a dandy, he would still be a total bad boy behind clothes doors... maybe undone neckties and shirts, cigarettes, an occasional wife-beater. Sort of a young Marlon Brando/Rudolph Valentino look.

when Nsync first came out, he was my favorite. the cutest, the best singer, the best dancer, the most personality.

in the intervening time, he's been surpassed in all of these areas by Justin. JC just looks/sounds nasty to me these days. disbelief

I think he was only surpassed by Justin because of management, and/or the fans alone puttin him on a pedistool.

I think JC is the most talented of them..(the others arent much 2 talk about .. did u c the spanish one's clothing line??? omg )
