Fleetwood Mac's SAY YOU WILL should have been nominated

i know it seems bias that i say this but I truly think it should have been-i think a lot of the industry is very anti-"Lindsey Buckingham-left-side-production" and that's why they got jipped. Same thing happened to TUSK. It's like if SYW had been a "rumours II" it would have gotten nominated..I mean come on, the Eagles got a f'n nomination-their sound still sounds like "Hotel California!"

Loved "Say You Will" and sad to see them overlooked. That Eagles song was pathetic!

man, purplegypsy tells the story so much better. she was the one who pulled of the tickets! i'd rather let her tell it...it really was her moment. not to mention that i requested the song for her. the recording was great, though, and he performed each song twice and i think red rover was 3 times. we were sitting in the 2nd or third row (on the right side of the stage), which was elevated so when the camera is shooting from lindsey's left, it was right on us. when the show does air, even if you can't see us, you will hear us. we were, without a doubt, the loudest fools in the place. and the band got quite a laugh from purplegypsy!

i'm going to let her tell you the rest, including the highlight of the evening!

I can't remember where I read the set list... at home, I have a bunch of FM sites bookmarked that I check on periodically as they always feature different downloads... On one of the sites, they posted the set list.

I didn't go to the SYW shows, namely because when they came to LA (or Irvine, I should say) in 1997, I went 3 nights in a row (with great seats each night), then the next weekend, Prince played 2 shows (and I went to both of those)... Those 2 weekends cost me sooo much money!!!

But it was well worth it.

ok, so i looked for the post from purplegypsy but i can't find it. so, here goes...

purplegypsy beame a member of npr so she could get two tickets to the taping of soundstage. we went to the studio and waited for what seemed like forever. we finally got in and found some seats but the seats sucked. we saw a few empty seats right up in front and pretty bumrushed the row! i don't remember whhat time the taping started but it ws somewhere around 8pm. it didn't end until almost midnite. lindsey was in a great mood, making jokes and fooling around. the selection of songs was great! not too many fm songs, which i was thankful for. i really just wanted to hear his solo work. and damn, can he play guitar. hands down, easily, the most underrated player ever! stevie came out and did two songs but she was very modest and maintained the concept that this was lindsey's show. some punk ass, lame-o quasi-fans left after stevie performed and you could hear them bitching about 'only 2 songs'. so lame. they weren't at a stevie concert, you know! anyhow...once these fools left, there were more open seats. we moved down to the front row so we could try and get our records signed after the performance. this was how i managed to get him to play save me a place..which, by the way, purplegypsy had been yelling AL NIGHT LONG, lol. we were so close that i just yelled out the title to him just after he asked for a request. he quickly obliged. after the show we went to exit and, of course, waited for lindsey to come out. when he did he was very gracious and signed our tusk records. i thanked him for playing save me a place and he was actually concerned with how it came off. he mentioned something about not being prepared for it and not knowing if it was pulled off. i let him know it sounded just perfect.

i'm sure i left a bunch out and that is why purplegypsy is way better at this sort of thing. if i missed anything, perhaps she will fill you in.

it was a great experience and i cant wait to see it on tv.

i'll add my story in later-i have to run now! SAVE ME A PLACE sounded solid and perfect--like he performs it every night-it was very emotional and it brought tears to my eyes...i'll tell more later...who wants to protest with me about lack of SAY YOU WILL With those grammy a-holes?!

Thanks!!! That sounds so awesome! I can't believe I missed your review on the org!

Can you imagine if Prince did a cover of "I'm so Afraid"?!?!

He did a brief version of "The Ledge" when he was on the Muppet Show in 95 or 96... That was a trip.

And yes... Say You Will totally should have been nominated... but are you really surprised... There were so many throw-a-way nominees!

For example, all the artists that have passed away this year... It's really sad that they are gone, and it's nice to pay tribute, but I can assure you, if they were all still living, they would have totally been overlooked.

Like that Warren Zevon song... It's really sad and all that... but it sounds like nails on a chalkboard!

I wonder if Fleetwood Mac was overlooked because so many of the songs on their album were written years ago...

I think he was only on once... well the one i am talking about is the one where he did "Starfish and Coffee" and "She Gave Her Angels"

In one of the opening skits, he was wearing overalls or a cowboy hat and chewing on a piece of straw (someone has that picture as an avatar)...

It sounded like he was making up lyrics, but it's actually "The Ledge" (Countin' on my fingers, countin' on my toes...) It was only a couple of lines...

I posted this back in 9/03:

First off all I have to say is FROZEN LOVE! Read down
if you want to learn more... The concert was
PHENOMENAL!!! WORTH THE TRIP FROM NYC!!! He sounded
better than ever...the crowd really got him going and
he was just so funny and so appreciative!!! He did
each song twice (except Big love) and I have to add in
here that people were screaming out songs for him to
do and he goes "well i have set songlist but maybe
i'll come back out later and we can do jam or
something..."I must have said "Save Me a place' about
20 times wondering...hoping...Anyway, here's the
setlist and i'll try to explain special moments from
each...

someone's gotta change your mind
Steal your heart away
big love
go insane
trouble (OH MY GODDD! after the first time
lindsey goes "we have to do it again" and I was
sitting right near brett tuggle the keyboardist and I scream out to brett "he can do it 3 times for all i care! brett started laughing and repeated it to lindsey)
Peacekeeper
Red Rover (someone in the corwd had yelled out this
song earlier and lindsey got so excited that people
acknowledged this song)
Never Going Back Again (with Stevie--after they did
this twice, someone screamed out FROZEN LOVE and
Lindsey and stevie looked at each other like "could we
do this? SHOULD we do this? and then she started
belting out the first verse!! ok the first two lines
and then she said "i forgot the rest!" and laughed--it
was so cute)

Say Goodbye was next and you could tell this was
really diffcult for Stevie emotionally to do
twice...she seemed really sad at the end...;Lindsey
leaned in after and gave her a reallly long kiss on
the cheek...)

Murrow Turning over in his grave
GYOW (this was done in a lower range and it sounded
great! Lindsey went NUTSSS--both times they
played it!)

Encore:

Some rolling stones song
Down on Rodeo (PHENOMEMAL!!!)

Then Lindsey came back and I'm still screaming SAVE ME
A PLACE, losing hope. And someoone yells Bleed to love
her... so he starts playing that...

then after Bleed, someone yelled MIRANDA and he smiled
and turned to neil haywood like "god i haven't done
this one yet...hmmm...how could we play this..." then
I yelled out save me a place one more time and he
turned over to brett and goes "Save? Yeah we'll do
SAVE!" I almost lost
it!!! It was the
highlight of the night- such a perfect way to end the
night with that song...and he hit all those emotional
falsettos...oh gosh...what a night... so we walked
out back after the show and waited patiently with my
TUSK album and he finally came out about 15 minutes
later and people were screaming all sort of things...
and I go "Lindsey I flew in from the Empire state!"
and he started laughing and said "Ha ha the empire
state" - i'm really cheesy like that...when he got
over to me, he hugged and kissed me and signed it...i
don't know if i can wash my face--it's still burning!!
Oh and I did say "I love your solo stuff so much and i
hope you will ponder doing another solo record
again..." he smiled--i hope that didn't sound rude
form my part!!! anyway, what a night! well worth the
trip!

I didn't bring any Mac with me to work! Dammit!!!

My copy of "Tusk" is signed by Mick Fleetwood... I saw him at the Walden Woods benefit concert a few years ago... (The night Stevie blew the roof off with "At Last")... I had about 6 FM cd covers with me, and I went up to Mick Fleetwood and asked for his autograph... I didn't want to be greedy so I just handed him one, but made it visible that I had others on me.. he was like "Well.. I better sign all those for you." so he did. He was sooo nice!

fleetwood mac is the definition of rock

grammy should be ashamed for not even nominating them in the rock category

i don't get it. they had a major hit tour and the album got good reviews and fan response and they just won some other awards too.

JBS: I think Mick was a jerk b/c those guys that got there before us were practically stalking him out front, no? Maybe I'm trying to think of everything to defend him.

i love stevie's version of at last.

i also loved the bit she did for that elvis tribute number, wear your ring around my neck, it rocked. even though it wasn't the full song. i forget what show it was on. cher came out at the end dressed as elvis though.

i know she just did another cover song at the most recent waldon woods project but, i haven't heard it.

how great would it be if she released some of these songs. it's nice to hear her singing some different styles. plus, they just rock out. i want them.
