This motherfucker was up on stage with MJ two years ago, gushing and fawning all over him. Seems to me he would have said to Rolling Stone: No, there is only one King of Pop.

The "King of Pop" title is a fraud anyway, dreamt up by a legend whose star was fading. But as long as we have it, I see no reason why Justin Timberlake should not lay claim to it. He's sold enough records and is a guy of reasonable talent.

Let him have it. Seriously, though, do you really think MJ can claim that any longer? Maybe I'd wait until he sold a slew of records but J.T. seems positioned to take the "throne"-- for whatever it's worth. I say more power to him.

Yes baby, I completely agree - How much love do you really have for the man who's style you admit to imitating- did you think we forgot?

That little bitch has got to work a LOT harder to get that kind of recognition, even though the original crowning of MJ as "King of Pop" seemed equally ludicrous at the time it was "announced" in the media. It's all just a bunch of publicists having a group wank, but all the same, who are they trying to kid? Pretty soon, a severely brain damaged feral cat will be named "King of Rock" simply because it's able to howl really loud. Sheesh. Good grief.

his voice is too nasal and whiney for him to be considered a good singer. his dance moves are stolen property. up until this point his claim to fame was 'nsnyc and the mickey mouse club. try sticking around another 20 years and then we'll start talking about 'king of' something.

um, but yeah, he is sexy as hell drooling

Hey - it's KING OF THE HILL. Whoever rules pop, is king. And today, this 15 minutes, it's JT. In four weeks, it'll be somebody else. Give the guy credit. If he's borrowing liberally from a pop music icon, how is that BAD compared to Dre 3000's Prince inspired release?

ah, but nobody is calling andre 3000 the new king of pop. i don't deny justin's success. i enjoy some of the songs i've heard from his cd. i just don't think his record sales (and lets face it, when we talk about king of pop, we are dealing with numbers) have been comparible to mj. at least not yet. and i think, personally, if you are to be king of something, it should be something you've defined. mj certainly defined an era of pop. justin is just imitating. no king would imitate.

please
i think people will remember Michael 20 years from now not Justin.

Micahel i think does have problems with not being able 2 capture the attention like b4, but Justin is nothing compared 2 the likes of him at ALLL. Michael is a legend and will stay that way long after he dies, so..

In my opinion, the title "King Of Pop' is not even worth having. Take into consideration how fickle the pop audience can be and you'll realize how fleeting and meaningless this title is.

yeah i wouldnt have minded even if they did post Andre's face and put "the new king of pop" by him because "The Love Below" was mind blowing. yet he is not copying prince or george Clinton may have influences but no copying, better yet Michael Jackson.
Justin already has used the Michael Jackson type voice, stole sum of his moves and gave no credit to urban culture for beatboxing as just "something i came up with" tired heffa.

not to mention micheal made the title up for himself... it's not like the media started calling him this spontaneously.

One could conceiveably compare Justified to Off The Wall..

..But unless his next two albums are on par with Thriller and Bad, this title is obviously a premature ejaculation from the marketing machine.

ditto, Britney/Madonna & ___/Prince

Justin is pretty cool, he can dance his ass off and sing. 4 all those out there, besides the other POP ICONS (MJ, Prince, Madonna), who would b a better KING OF POP in this day in age (2003)? :I: couldn't think of any.

Thanks for the clarification.

My problem with the "KOP" title is that it's superflous when it comes to Michael Jackson. It was absurd to use it for a guy who was already a legend.

Unfortunately, he embraced the title just as his sales of new LPs started to fade (as they do with any artist), and the title ironically gave people an opportunity to mock him, not to recognize him for his accomplishments.

Justified = comparable to Off The Wall?

What kind of math did you learn in elementary school?

I was really shocked that derivative POS got nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR (???), let alone 4 other Grammys. This guy is so full of himself, you can just tell. But he doesn't even have the music to back it up. Yawn. RS is a publicity whore magazine anyway, who gives a shit what they write about anymore. The put the Olsen Twins on the cover, after all.

And Britney does not (and will never have) have the brains, musical ability or voice of Madonna...in fact, she doesn't have a voice period.

Ah, Ricky Martin was hailed the new King of Pop in 1999. So what? MJ is the Godfather of Pop wink That's what some article called him a couple of months ago, lining out his influence on the industry today. I thought that was cool. I could post it if anyone wants.
